Default Couple of swap q's regarding LS vs. SOHC VTEC into CRX Si

First off, which of these swaps is easier overall? I know the SOHC VTEC drops right in...do the mounts require modification for the B18A/B? Frame rail modifications with either? Anybody with firsthand experience able to let me know about how long each would take?

I know that with the SOHC VTEC, either the ECU needs to be changed along with the distributor/intake manifold/etc or an external VTEC control can be hooked up - what sort of ECU mods are necessary with the LS?

Finally, I like the thought of a SOHC VTEC turbo setup - is this a fairly common setup? I haven't seen too many posts about it...of course the LS turbo would be that much stronger, and from what I hear pulls like a bitch in a CRX.

Lemme hear your thoughts...it might be a while before I do it, but I wanna get my **** straight before I get set on one or the other.

Thanks for your time guys!!

the ls swap is simple if you have the si model....just get the mount kit, shift linkage, axles and ecu..everything plugs rite in

The Sohc VTEC is an easy swap... almost like pulling the old D16 out and putting it in... just a few changes have to be made... EXCEPT: The wiring is tough. If you wanna ghetto rig it and use the Pm6 computer, it's easy, but if you want to get a sohc vtec ecu it's a bitch converting to obd-I... I know, I did it. I can email you all the necessary steps to put it in... IM me, if you like. I would say go B18a/b if you have the cash. I couldn't afford a B18, so I went sohc Vtec. Oh well, at least I can tell people at the track that "it's just a stock, sohc d16..."

So with the LS swap, no banging of frame rails is required? And the ecu plugs right up? What about 94-00 models, would those require more intensive rewiring? Would I need to get a 91-93 LS to make it this easy?

Oh, and as far as the SOHC VTEC goes, can't you send your harness out and have it converted so that it works with the D16Z6 ecu? I thought I heard that Zdyne does this or something.

Thanks again for the help

YOu can get any year LS as long as you use a non obd distributor and injector plugs. Check out http://www.hasport.com they have a pretty much complete tech info w/ pictures on where and what to hammer down and type of axles to use. They helped me a lot on my swap.

Depending on the mount kit you use, will dictate what "banging" you've got to do. With HASport, it's pretty minor massaging that has to be done. If you're concerned about knocking paint off, use a towel and a sand filled dead blow. Ultimately, the B series is going to be more powerful.

If you get an LS motor, you will need a 90 - 93 LS Tranny (or other b-seties cable tranny) plus ECU, LS axles, and hasport or place racing mounts.
With SOHC VTEC, all you really need is the head and a VTEC controller. You can use your trans, ECU, Axles, mounts, Intake, distributor, Injectors, heck you can even use your old block.
So SOHC VTEC is a much cheaper way to go, and much easier if you use an aftermarket VTEC controller. But the LS motor has more power potential.

Cool, thanks for all the help guys...anybody have any round figures that I could find either one for? I've heard that some places practically give away the SOHC VTEC motors.

Oh, and I guess this won't be taking place as soon as I hoped...me and the GF decided to move out soon.
