Default D16Y7 Engine

What company makes really good Cams for a D16Y7? Are the engine sizes for the D16Y7 and D16Y8 the same? If so can't you just replace parts from the engine instead of replacing the whole thing to go vtec? What parts do you have to switch? I'm on a really low budget here so I'd be very thankful for some very useful info.

crower makes a nice cam, i'd try them. I've heard mixed reviews about the zex cam, but nothing about the gude.

The block is the same you could just swap the head for a Y8 or you could throw a Y5 head on. The Y5 has roller rockers and is pretty much a built head.

Swap just tha head? Wouldnt I need to replace just more than the head to get better performance?

To start you can swap just the head and get the VTEC yo!

ROFL........that will help out, then you can just get a VTEC cam.

I'd have the to buy a complete head right? I cant just swap the head without getting new intake manifold with throttle body? Or can I just swap the head.

u could use your stock intake manifold but it will probably hinder your performance a bit compared to the y8 intake manifold, which is considered the best for the sohc.

if you use a vtec head youll need more than just head.
you need the wiring to be done.
vtec head.(and ALL its components)
vtec ecu

if you dont want to spend i suggest not doing this swap.
but one thing you can consider is changing the throttle body and intake manifold from your y7 to a y8.

theres a lot of things you can do to ur motor just gonna cost you a grip

GUDE has one for this particular engine.

im lookin for something else to do to my DX. Whats the site foe GUDE. i want to do the intake and throttle swap. my buddy is puttin a new engine in his ex. he said i could have the intake manifold and throttle body. it had 170,000 harsh miles so could the intake be damnaged at all. the head i dont want most likely.

I'd go with Crower, in fact, I did. I didn't go the all motor route but here's my mods on my D16Y8... I think the Y7 is non-vtec for a DX/LX rated at 106hp.

Comptech Header
Apex'i WS Exhaust
Jackson Racing Super Charger
Crower Cam
AEM Underdrive pulleys (Don't get those!)
AEM CIA
Intake manifold Ported and Polished
80mm Throttle Body

With these mods minus the supercharger, I'm running in the high 120's horsepower at the wheels. I'm not exactly sure because I haven't dynoed for a while. It's not the fastest all motor but it's fun and it doesn't attract unwanted attention.

have you taken your car down to the track with your supercharger?, if so what times did you pull? What don't you like about the AEM pulley kit. I haven't noticed anything bad, except i didn't feel a real power gain, just that it climbed the power band quicker. Also, which cam did you get, and has it helped out alot? I know there were different stages.
