Bought an ITR tranny...was I ripped off?
I bought an "ITR" tranny (code S80)several months ago from a local guy for $1000. He wanted $1500, but I talked him down. Installed it in my crx a few weeks ago, and today I had to lift the front end of my car because my traction bars are hanging too low to get an alignment.
while it was up on jack stands, I turned one wheel, the other stood still (it was in neutral). I assume that is normal. So I put it in 1st gear and spun the wheel. the other wheel turned in the opposite direction. I was told it had to spin in the same direction if it has an LSD. Before install and when I purchased it from the guy, I looked to see if I could see through the diff and I could. There is nothing in the way.
Did I get ripped off?
Thanks guys!

From what i remember when you do have an LSD and youre in first, spin one wheel and the other is supposed to spin the other way. Not for sure tho cuz its been a while/too many braincells killed.
There is something else that has to do with lookin through the diff but i dont know what it is.

ok, so could the diff be welded? or if it were welded would the wheels act the same as if it had an LSD in it?
What is supposed to happen when you spin the wheel in 1st gear?

Thinking back to driving it...it definitely acted differently when I was in a turn than my old LS transmission. Just pulls through it instead of spinning the inside tire. While I get into the throttle, I get a lot of left power steer. Do those observations counter each other?

That looks like an ITR transmission to me. Open ended. Stock diff.
Transmissions do not act right when there is no load on the vehicle. Especially, suspended up in the air.
Sounds like you are all good to go.

That is a OEM LSD transaxle, and it would be obvious if it was welded.. turning and welded diffs are not friends.

no it dose not. i have a ctr trans same as the usdm itr trans. when i spin one wheel the other spins the other way.
its like that.
other lsd that i seen like the clutch types most of my friends have a 2 way clutch type lsd the wheels spin the same direction.
from the pics you deff has a oem type lsd. an open diff will have a big pin in the middle.

The diff is definately an LSD. You should check to see if it still works though. An easy way to check is to simply do a burnout and see if both wheels are spinning or just the driver-side. When the oem LSD wears out it will simply begin its new life as a regular one wheel power diff. It happened to me with my ITR tranny and then I got a Quaiffe.
