Possible Fuel pump problem??? Help
b18c5 on 93 hatchie. Had no problems for a long time, but now sometimes the car starts and right as I want to move it chokes and dies. Then it does not want to start, it spins and spins..... I noticed each time it occures and I want to start it there was missing a sound of the fuel pump building up the preasure. Sometimes when i take out the key multiple times i get the fuel pump sound and bam the car starts and is ok, but then sometimes it chokes again and dies. The fuel pump was changed to walbro about 2 years ago. The problem does not occur all the time just ones out of the blue. What could it be??
I am thinking a ground to the pump?

POTENTIALLY A GROUND TO THE PUMP, BUT SINCE THE MOTOR IS RELATIVELY NEW COMPARED TO THE CHASSIS TRY THE FUEL PUMP RELAY. YES, THERE'S A TEST FOR THE RELAY, BUT IT'S SOMEWHAT CUMBERSOME FOR A PROBLEM THAT ONLY HAPPENS 'SOMETIMES'. THE FUEL RELAY IS A TWO STAGE RELAY. FIRST WHEN YOU TURN THE KEY TO THE RUN POSITION IT WILL PRESSURIZE THE LINE FOR 3 SECONDS THEN SHUT DOWN. NEXT, WHEN YOU TURN THE KEY TO 'START', THE PUMP WILL RUN AND CONTINUE TO RUN SO LONG AS THE ENGINE IS RUNNING. THE RELAY IS ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE DASH JUST ABOVE THE HOOD RELEASE CABLE. IT'S MOUNTED TO THE SHEET METAL ON THE SIDE OF THE DASH. IT'S KIND OF A BITCH TO GET AT AND THE COST IS ABOUT $50-75 THE LAST TIME I BOUGHT ONE.
GOOD LUCK.
GOOD LUCK.
are you going to leave caps on for every post??
really intermediate probelms are a pain, cause when your already to test things nothings going wrong but if I were you I would get me some jumper wires off the fuel pump and run them up through the back seat and keep a meter on it at all times and that way when the problem occurs all you have to do is turn around turn it on and see if it is gettting a power and a ground and at least you can narrow it down to a fuel pump problem once you know that than find out if it is a loss of power or a loss of a ground. and just like homeboy said it does run through the main relay but you have 2 parts to it one side is controlled and the other is the controler so then you will have to narrow it down to which side. I once had a ecu that wasnt grounding out pgmfi relay causing the fuel pump not to come on.
