Shipping for Bumpers and Seats
What's the cheapest way to send front and back outside bumpers, front and back seats, and a distributor? They'd be going from Chicago, IL to Utica, NY. Do they have to be sent on a freight truck or what?
If they are all boxed individually, UPS will do it. But it would be cheaper to take a drive to meet half way. I shipped a set of front seats from Utah to Florida, and they ran $40 a seat.
FedEx Ground is usually always the cheapest, and offer better service than UPS. Just get boxes from your local U-haul. The short wardrobe boxes hold seats perfectly, and the tall wardrobes should hold a bumper. Just make sure you use lots of bubble wrap to protect the items.
If you work for a company that does a lot of shipping and have accounts with courier services, use their account, you may get a cheaper shipping rate.
Does anyone know about how much the seats and outer bumpers and distributor weigh? And what size boxes I would need? I'm the one that would be receiving them so I don't know any of this info, and if you have any idea it would help.

the seats are just over three feet tall from my guess, about two feet wide. the bumper is probably about five feet wide by one foot tall by two feet deep. the seats weigh about 20 pounds each, a plastic bumper cover probably around 10. back seats from a hatch should be in three pieces, the two backs and one bottom. i would guess that is about 4X2X1. hope this helps. the box for the backseat would probably be about 15 pounds.
ok, just checked mapquest. from chitown to utica is 725 miles, and they are twelve and a half hours apart. so, you would each be driving this distance. 725 miles is about 3 tanks of petrol on a mildly modified EF, so that is about $45 each in gas money. not to mention that it is a full day of driving! i would consider it from this perspective. is this worth an entire day of driving to only spend $45? you could work some overtime and make enough to pay the shipping, maybe even the sender will split the bill?
if you are driving the car that is to recieve the new seats and you meet him somewhere, why not just put the new seats in on the spot and ditch the old seats there? some ideas for thought.

Thanks for the info! People I know that have gone to chicago say that the drive is about 11 hours, and freetrip.com says 11:25. So I don't know, I have to think about it. I don't really want to ditch my stuff, since it's in near perfect condition.
