fuel leak, where to look for it?
im getting about 180 miles to a full tank, and i smell fumes often, but really strong under WOT. i dont know where to look for a gas leak, because im not getting NEARLY the gas mileage i should be. car is 88crx si, with b16 swap. no fuel mods, all stock.
thanks

Um I would suggest fuel filter hoses, fuel rail hoses, o-rings on injectors, lines that run to the gas tank. Other than that, I can't really think of anything else. Try this, have someone sit in the car while you look under your hood (make sure it's completely silent so you can hear). Have them turn the key to the Run or ON position (do not start it), while the fuel pump is priming, listen under the hood for any gas leaking. If something is in fact leaking you will hear/smell it from under the hood. After the fuel pump stops priming, you will have to have your friend turn the key off and do it again. Just becareful to not over do it, as you will start flooding the engine. Start it ever couple of turns to burn the gas that's in the engine. Good luck!

Thats horrible gas mileage! I get at least 250 to a tank with my b16 supercharged 10psi.
Do you have cat? if you dont you will get fuel smell from the exhaust . I would check under the back of the car near the tank. look at the return line to the tank, my old car leaked there. it would not leave puddles of gas at all, just a smell. They are known to rot and go bad check it out.
thanks

yes i have a cat
will do, i had a ful tank on monday, and now i have about 1/4 a tank, and ive gone 133 miles. and i only went above 4K once, its rediculous, i can smell gas like crazy. but gas dres up fast and doesnt leave puddles,so I will check out the fuel return line,
are all the fuel lines ran underneath the car?

they run from the engine bay to inside the car then come back out near the tank it will be on the driver side rear next to the tank. There will be a plastic panel that you have to take off to inspect under and see the lines

nothing is leaking in my engine bay or inside my cabin, so it has to be from there. do I need to buy a hole new line from honda, or cn i just replace the bad part?

heres the deal, when i had my brother rev it and look for gas i could smell it, but not see any drop down. but im losing 1/2 of the mileage i should be getting to a full tank. the return line is rusted underneath, but i dont see a hole. any ideas, i dont want to have to route a new return line into there, seems kinda difficult. could it be the return line and i just cant see the gas drop?

maybe you have a bad fuel pressure regulator and your dumping way too much fuel into the engine and its not burning off and your running real rich. Is the gas smell coming from the tailpipe?
Check the color of the exhaust coming out. If it's black, then the engine is burning rich. Could also be you are not burning the excess fuel and it is dumping into your oil, not good for the pistons or rings. Pull your dipstick, smell for fuel.

sorry to thread jack but I need your wings west kit you have for sale... how can I contact you?
honda-tech won't let me instant message cause I just made a new profile.
if I can meet you on AIM or something that would be cool

K. One thing at a time. YOU CANNOT FLOOD YOUR ENGINE BY CYCLING THE KEY TOO MANY TIMES. What, are we running carbs and pumping the pedal? Next, gasoline does not dry up that fast. If you've got a leak, you will see it on the ground. Or on the engine. Third, your O2 sensors are not to blame. Don't replace them. Your smell is coming from the exhaust, so you are running rich as has already been pointed out. Check your fuel pressure; also, pull the vacuum line off the regulator and make sure you're not leaking fuel from the regulator into that line. Chances are good though, that you have a bad regulator and it will show up in the pressure test. Unless you pinched a return line somehow.
