Cam install without loosening timing belt? is this possible?!
i was just surfing c-speed's how to page and came across the cam install. they said to just slip the belt off the gears?! is that possible?

sure, the ends of the cams that are on the distributor end of the cams can be tilted/lifted up and away from each other to relieve the tension on the belt.
you can use something to retain that tension... like a ziptie or metal coat hanger tied to the fender / cruise control actuator (in my 94 GSR that worked fine) somewhere to keep the belt in place (you dont want it skipping teeth on the crank pulley) but be extremely careful to not cut or harm the belt!
be sure to double check the timing marks when you set it all back in place.
then when the NEW cams are in, place the belt over the camgears BEFORE you tighten down the camcaps over the cams!
simple as that!

Its really simple.. just put your motor at TDC and take off the cam caps, that will cause the distributor side of the cam to stick up in the air relieving tension on the belt..
You dont have to worry about the belt skipping while the cam is off, it doesnt matter. What matters is that when you do finally install the cams, to make sure that the cam is pointed toward each other at TDC and the crank pulley havent moved and slip the belt through, if its not, just keep skipping ***** on the cam gear till you get it rite... Tighten the cam caps in the order you are suppose to and torque them down. Spin your motor like 10x and then put it back to TDC and check once again if the cams and the crank pulley show the same... And thats it.
