LS throttle body on gsr skunk2 intake manifold?
Hey guys,
do you know if an ls throttle body will work on my 1996 gsr motor w/ a skunk2 intake manifold? Also, does it matter what year the throttle body is? Will it idle fine? Please let me know

57one: Let me tell you from experience. My buddy bought a JG/edelbrock throttle body and a skunk2 intake manifold. The first thing we noticed was that the t/b and the intake manifold matched perfectly ( 65mm ). So, we went ahead and did the swap. Pulled out the intake manifold from his 96 GSR and placed in the skunk2 manifold. The one thing I noticed about the t/b was that it was from a LS. If you look on top of the t/b, there's a stamp that reads "GR". And there's 2 ports in the t/b behind the butterfly. His GSR t/b only had one port. Installed everything, checked the lines, plugs, etc..... Started the car, no check engine light ( cool ), and the thing ran very rich and idled very high ( 2000-2300 ). We made some adjustments to the t/b and it still idled high. Then we took the car for a test drive and it bogged like crazy on 2nd gear and so on. We went to put back the GSR t/b and it still ran rich. I don't know of anybody that has a skunk2 i/m that had these problems. Anyways, hope this helps. Back to the drawing board.
Did you screw with the throttle position sensor at all? What tuning device were you using to correct your fuel mixture? My buddy took his IM off to ceramic coat it and when we put it back on, it was having a rapid idle problem between 1-3k. We took it all off, cleaned all the sensors, put them back on, and it was holding a steady idle of 2k (like you described). We messed with the TPS a bit and finally we got a stock idle. It took a lot of messing around to get it back to stock, but somehow when we took the throttle body off, we musta unlatched the TPS. Good luck
Hmmm, interesting. You have a good point there. We did play the with TPS sensor and I made sure that it was lined up properly with the TPS gasket. I'll try again and take out his i/m. Thx.
did you check the TPS voltage
idle - under .5 , WOT 4.5 volts
did you adjust the idle air screw ? unplug the IACV, adjust the idle , replug and reset ECU to register the changes
whats the timing set to ?

yea it'll work.
make sure you use the correct throttle body gasket..otherwise you will have problems. You need to use the gasket that goes with the throttlebody...so if you have a 94 ls TB use the 94 gasket. The 96+ have different gaskets. The skunk manifold is made to work with all B series throttle bodies 94+

Whats the difference between the Ls throttle body and the gsr throttle body?
LS = 58mm
GSR = 60mm
ITR = 62mm
LS = 58mm
GSR = 60mm
ITR = 62mm
Some guy that posts here on H-T dyno'd his car with his Stock GS-R TB and the Skunk2 IM and then with a 68mm TB with the Skunk2 IM and they Dyno'd the same. No improvement whatsoever. He said it was a waste of money. Just some info.
