New to the Hobby
I'm a 17 yr. old high school senior who happened to come across a 90 Crx si. It is my first car, an I am, to be blunt, ignorant when it comes to cars. I want to learn about performance, but first I have afew glitches that I need to take care of...
1) charging systems light - I have already run battery checks and alternator checks with my father. The light's not completely on either. It is so dim that I did not notice it until the first time I drove after sunset. I understand there is a computer under the passenger floorboard that will give me a code... Is this worth checking out? If so, is this manageable for me?
2) the a/c does not work and I have taken it to a local garage that gives free inspections. They already fixed the high side service valve, but they filled the car with freon twice. I have spent close to 200 dollars and I have not gotten a complete assessment of the problem. Should I switch to a Honda certified garage for answers?
3) The rear windshield is missing the bottom modling piece, which I believe is responsible for a leak when it rains really hard. The previous owner gave me the molding, which he purchased before selling the car but did not want to fix for money reasons. He told me that if I wanted to fix it right, I should take it to a glass specialist and have them pop the windshield out and put the molding in place... Is it possible that I could do this on my own? If so, are any special tools required, and where could I receive some instruction on this?
Thanks for all the help you can give...
Brian

does the car start and run ok? or does it seem to have a dying battery or hard time starting? even after driving it for a while. you won't see a code unless the check engine light comes on( I believe).
wasn't your ac leak tested? where they put the colored stuff in and look for leaks? honestly I don't know much about ac systems, but I think you should take the car somewhere else for that.
removing glass, in one piece is a pain, and not real easy to do( in my experience). I would look around for other possible leak areas. around the quarter windows, the tail lights, clogged sunroof drain tubes, or even the tubes not properly extended to the drain openings. get some rtv silicone and seal it up.
these are just some ideas. even if you are new and don't know a lot about working on cars. a good repair manual will really help you out. most of them have a troubleshooting section. good luck!

the car runs great. it is in good condition (minus these few problems). I have not had any major occurences with it aas of yet. I know how to do most of the maintenance on it thank to my father, but I do not know much more than that. The guy leak tested the ac and said that it was the service valve and fixed it. However it stopped working shortly after. I figure I should take it to a Honda dealer or certified garage to do the work. Thanks for the info on the leak, I will definately check it out.
About the Battery light, check out the ECU to see if you're getting a code, if you're not and the charging system hold a charge you shouldn't worry about it too much.
For the A/C, DON'T TAKE IT TO HONDA!!!!! Their rates are ridiculous. My bet would be that the compressor isn't working properly.
Follow the troubleshooting procedure in a Helms service manual. There is a free one floating around out there, just Google "CRX workshop manual" and you'll find it.

for some odd reason on my hatch when my ac doesnt work its cuz one of my fuses was blown. check to make sure ur REAR DEFROSTER fuse isnt blown if it is replace it. on my hatch i replaced that one and then my ac came back on. i dont kno why.
