obd0 b16 IACV problems
Ive replaced the IACV valve a couple of times with a few different one's. My car is an 89 hatch w/ obd0 b16a swapped into it. The electrical connection to the ecu is good and the valve has been cleaned and installed correctly. I'm still throwing a CEL code for it though..any ideas?
Ok, checked the pins in the plug and they are making a good connection. I have a question though, how many wires are supposed to be going into the plug that connects to the IACV? I have a ecu pinout and it says only one wire is for the IACV and it's a blue/yellow. I have two going to the plug and neither of them are a blue/yellow wire. Help?
Also, one more quick question. Ever since ive had this car ive had nothing but weird electrical problems and the more in-depth I get with the wiring the more it seems...rigged. Here's my question, are there any after-market companies that would sell like a whole harness meant for the obd0 b16 swap?
Make sure the IACV wire goes to pin A11 on the ecu. (PR3)
Make sure the other wire is making a good ground. (thermostat ground)
Also you could check the resistance between the contacts on the IACV
After you replaced the IACV did you reset the ecu?
You also have to reset the ecu to make the code go away. Your new IACV may be fine but the code will be stored in the computer until you reset it.
<U>to reset ecu:</U> disconnect the neg battery cable and remove the "hazard" fuse from the underhood fuse box for about 10 seconds.

Yeah, it's a good working IACV...it's about the third one i've tried. The IACV is in pin A11, double and triple checked that. I noticed that the two wires coming from the harness were cut and two different color wires were introduced to lenghten the first two..maybe the guy crimped them backwards. As for the thermostat ground, can you elaborate?
one wire goes to the ecu and the other is a ground for the sensor. In a factory wiring harness, the ground wire combines and connects to other grounds in the harness and is grounded by a 10mm bolt located on the thermostat housing. (thermostat ground)
1. Use a multimeter and check that both wires are going where they are supposed to.
2. Then reset the ecu and check

yeah, I figured it out today, the thermostat is fully grounded. I switched the wires going to the plug and still no change. I'm pretty sure i'm going to just buy a new harness and plug and play...thanks for the help though.
Actually....I know this sounds dumb..but I really didnt think of that. Can you, or anyone else here post some photos of the way I should wire up the new IACV and ground wire up to the plug?
