Default B16b with B16a head troubles... car smokes.. water!!!!! please help...

i had a b16 in my crx but blew it up.. the rod when out through the block ouch!!!... anyway i take it off and take apart the head... to see if it was still good.. take it to machine shop to check for flatness on the bottom of my head and they told me it still in good condition no cracks... so end up buying a ctr b16b block from n1concepts up in san fransisco... and i buy brand new head gasket .. and torque the head down to 78Lbs.. i put the motor back in the rex and install it... turn it on but the car idles all the way up to 2500rpm and there is lots of water and vapor... (kinda like white smoke) coming out the tail pipe... so i did a compression test and its 240 all across... i didnt know what it was so i eneded up taking apart the head again ...buying antoher brand new b16b headgasket because i tought that other one could of had been defective..when i took it off there was lots of oil and water on top of my pistons.and when i drained the oil the coolant and oil where mixed... so i did think it would be the headgasket.. so i purchased that other gasket.. and put it back together and still deos the same thing.. i dont know what is making coolant get inside my pistons... i mean i got brand new headgasket.. i took the head to machine shop and its good... block came out of working vehicle and no crack sleeves.... and i torqued the head down to 78lbs... Does anyone know what could be letting coolant and oil get on top of my pistons.. Do i have to get a custom headgasket 4-layer? or could it be the valve stem seals on the head? or could my intake manifold head gasket be causing this problem? i check for all the lines to be pluged up correctly and they are.. if anyone could help me out here..please ive had the car sitting in the garage for about 2 months now.

Valve stem seals won't allow water to enter the cylinders. You mentioned the head was checked and its not warped. What about the block? Deck could be warped. Was the deck perfectly clean? Did you clean the surface of the head? Use dowels when you installed the gasket/head? Make sure there was no water in the headbolt threads?

i did check the block and the head to see if they were warped and they are not.. one thing i did not do was clean the head and the block with sand paper.....i did use dowels... but could me not cleaning the head and the block cause the coolant to get into my pistons? any more ideas...

one question too so there is no other seal inside of the head that will make coolant and oil get into the top of the piston?

I never said anything about sand paper. Don't know how good of an idea that one is. If there is any type of debris on the head or block, its going to allow the gasket to not seat correctly... so yes, not cleaning could be the problem.

The head would need a crack internally to allow that. The machine shop should have checked this as well, unless you told them to simply check the surface.

the only thing machine shop check was the surface they did not check for internall cracks.. ? and that sand paper idea i got it from my friend... he did an ls vtec once and he sanded the head and the block.. and everything worked fine for him.. anyway so a crack on the head or a head gasket is the only things that would let coolant and oil get into the top of my pistons.. any more possiblities of being something else?

do you still have the coolant line hooked to the throttle body, i guess maybe you could have something weird going on there? by some odd chance are your dowels so long that they arent letting the head gasket crush? just throwing out some ideas, i dont really know how else you can get coolant into the engine besides the HG.

all the lines are hooked up correctly because i already triple check them.. and its not just coolant getting into the top of my pistons its oil too... do you really thing the dowels are too long that wont let the head gasket crush? I mean i used the same once that came out of my blown b16 block i mean all b-series must be the same right? i dont think that would be a possiblity would it...

anythings a possibility. there just aren't many ways for coolant to get into the combustion chambers.

They are indeed the same. Same height and diameter. Thats not your problem.

thats true so what would you recommend take the head to machine shop to get it inspected or buy new head gasket?

no, measure that ****. just a basic measure to see. use calipers and measure the height of the dowel, then measure depth of the hole. if the difference in the measurement is really close to the head gasket thickness, start looking at that. im not saying im right, but im trying to give you an idea of what you havent done. since it seems you've already tried everything.

oy , they are the same. but are you 100% sure that your head and block have never been milled? if they have do you know by how much? did the machinist file down the dowels to account for the milling done? i was never saying that they werent the same dowels.

heres DonF's tips for decking a block,

have the head pressure checked. get new valve seals. check valve guides. Have the block decked and also resurface the head. deck could be warped and it doesnt hurt to have a nice clean surface on the head. a scratch or something on the surface can make it leak.

if the headgasket says up its the right way. you can try a different head if you have it. doesnt hurt anything. if it fixes it then you know what it was. if it still leaks then you might want to look into decking the block it may be warped. are there any scratches or nicks on the block or the head? and can you see where it was leaking?. kinda hard to tell you exactly what it is since i'm not looking at it but i'd start with what i suggested. good luck!
