Default 3piece front not legal for SFWD, but TS?

http://www.nhrasportcompact.co...id=11

The NHRA Sport Compact Tech Committee will not approve this front end for use in the Urbanracer.com Sport FWD Class.

Per the recent rule revision posted for the Urbanracer.com Sport FWD class, “Based upon advanced written approval by NHRA, mild customizing and body kits permitted, but must retain full-bodied appearance. Minimum two functional doors required.”

For some reason I kinda of thought this would happen.

Just another "RULE" that is useless. IMHO

I wouldn't say that you would need this to keep up with anyone. I don't see any performance gain from this front end other than weight, but as long as there is weight minimums, that doesn't matter either.

Just another stupid NHRA rule, It would have been cool to have this.

I don't understand what doesn't make it legal. It is two fenders, a hood, and a front bumper which is what all sportsman cars have. Just because the front fenders are flaired, what is the big deal?

Thats bullshit, i dont understand why they will not allow this "body kit". If they dont allow these fenders and bumper then they should just make it mandatory to run stock fenders and bumper.

An exposed tire creates shitloads of drag. From what I've read anyway....

this is an email from Pat at nhra tech dept just after the vegas race. i have purchased one and that was about the only thing that was keeping me from racing. i didnt make the indy race becasue of home purchase but was planning on it.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

>there is a commercially available front bumper and fender combo available
>for the 1992-1995 Honda Civic. I just wanted to make sure that the set up
>is legal for competition in sfwd. The civics do not have the same amount
>of
>room in front of the core support as an integra or even a 1996-2000 civic.
>attached is a picture of the bumper and fenders on a car. it retaines the
>factory apearing fenders just wider. The rule book is vauge and i dont
>want
>to travel to indy and not be able to race.
>
>Thanks for your time,
>Philip Wight
>
Philip,
>
> Per the 2007 NHRA Sport Compact Rulebook page 31 under body it reads in
>part "Mild customizing and body kits permitted, but must retain full bodied
>appearance". With that said it would be legal to use the same fenders and
>bumper as this car; as it was permitted to run this past weekend in Las
>Vegas.

Is this considered written permission?

Thanks alot.
Philip

Philip,

Not exactly, if you want written permission send pictures of the fenders and
bumper on your car, request approval. However I can tell you I see no problem
with the car you are using as an example.

i dont know why it pisses me off but it does. i guess because i went through the trouble of emailing before the investment.

with the way my i/c is mounted, that is the only bumper i have found to fit it. i guess we will see what looks better front end wise. i will have to dust off the chain saw.

i hope your not serious...

with the top cars going 155+ a front end like that will make a difference.

so technically you could bolt on a set of fender flares and be ok? isnt that the same thing? seems like a rediculous rule.

Last time I checked the cars going 155+ are using stock body parts. I personally dont think a front end like that will make a difference but it is definitly neat looking. Looks to me like you pretty much have nhra's approval

IMO, with the slicks covered, the car will have better aero-dynamic's, less drag. With out the two holes (where the charge pipes are) again you have less drag.

Doesn't less drag = more speed?

Looks as if the front bottom lip would benefit as well .. Of course, how do you quantify the gain in the aerodynamics, as well a little bit of downforce on the front.. Back to Back wind tunnel tests, slightly cut OEM vs the aftermarket.., it does look pretty dope though and theoretically.. there should be some type of gain.. I just can't say how much ..

This front end is much safer than stock.

@#%* the rules, I'm buying this front end for my street car.

If any of you guys have actually looked at one of these cars with the right offset wheel at high speeds, you'll see that the tires don't stick out past the fenders. The tires grow and get skinny, at the speeds where aero comes into play, the tires are not sticking out past the fenders.

This front end looks cool, no doubt, but it will more than likely slow the car down by having more frontal area that is not needed...

Wider is not better for aero.

Tony, I think this front end would help us, see the first photo from Jenny. We're still using 3/4" spacers. May have them cut down a bit in the future. But then we run Q16 so it more of a function thing for us rather if the rules allow it for you.

They said a F1 car would be much faster if they covered the tires.
