Hello all,
Just wanted to let everyone know that the current (September) issue of Honda Tuning is as close as the magazine has gotten to being a road race only issue. As some of you may know I just finished a three issue gig as editor of the magazine.
The September issue has a white B16B powered H1 spec Civic on the cover. It also features two other Civics that are street/track cars. The news section has coverage of the ITR Expo, a gymkhana event, and F1, GT500, and ALMS coverage of the Honda/Acura teams.
If you see the previous issue, (August) there is a detailed write up on the H1 D-series motor that Bernardo Martinez built and Collin Botha was preparing to run at the nationals.
I am no longer associated with the magazine and it doesn't really matter to me if anyone reads it, but I did have Honda track people in mind when I put it together and think that some of you may find it entertaining.

My issues were August (White RSX cover) September (white EK hatch cover, yes Edo the one we tested in July) and October which will be out in about a month (2 EGs on the cover, sort of a drag race oriented issue.)
The EK was built to H1 specs and we wanted to see if the B16B could be competitive at the B16 weight.

I heard Colin blew another motor first session last weekend. Could it be the one the write up was about?

He put a hole in his block Saturday in practice just this past weekend. He had a hole in a piston the previous practice day he was out.

I think he has had problems with the 1.7 D since he started running it. I'm wondering if he retuned it or was running on the West Coast tune.

You should talk to Colin about it, for nobody here except for a couple of us know some of the problems he's has. But, since it is his motor and he knows the steps he's taken to get it to run only he can answer these questions.
To those who don't know, the Super D is a 1.7L engine based around a D16A6 block and head and using modified D17 GX 12.5 pistons, rods, crankshaft, and other components. It's a high-output high compression (13.2:1) single cam motor and as such, it takes some special care getting it tuned to run properly and reliably.
You can read about this very motor in the August, 2007 issue of Honda Tuning magazine if you are interested.

Yes indeed, his motor was the ex-Bernardo Martinez D-series motor built to work within the H1 rules. It is an great sounding motor and hopefully Colin gets it back together soon.

I gotta agree. After 4 years I let my subscription run out last Spring because it had gotten so redundent. If they can make every month more like this, I'll gladly renew again. Great job Andy.

These last few issues, with Andy Hope and John Thawley at the helm have been examples of what this magazine should have always been: Excellent content presented in a way that respects the intelligence of its readers.
There are already enough other low-tech mags about body kits, stereos, chrome and nitrous to keep the sheep happy... dont let HT become one of them! The more it gets like Popular Mechanics for Hondas the better it is!

Seriously, I was changing my mind about renewing up until now. Great job! Hopefully they wont f it up!
