Default For those who have totalled their car and had to deal with the insurance co.

Hey guys I need your help. I totalled my car last week and now I have to deal with insurance. I went there today to talk to them and they told me that they're not going to give me money for the aftermarket parts I put into the car (rims, body kit, cf hood, etc). Many people have told me however that they did get money for their aftermarket things? (people who have had their cars totalled or stolen) Are they required to do so? What can I do about my situation? BTW I am insured by Farmer's. Did you guys get money for your aftermarket things?

That is what I have heard from many people who have totalled their cars or had their cars stolen. They said they were reimbursed for the items they put into the car but had to show original receipts. What my insurance co. is saying is that they won't give me $$ for those items reguardless. For my rims, they said the GSR was equipped with alloy rims in the first place so it wasn't an upgrade of any sort. And for my body kit they said it doesn't increase the car's value and it is just an enhancement item that I chose to put on the car... Any suggestions on what I can/should do?

here ya go... listen up good cause im an insurance adjuster and i do this **** all day....
1) find out how much they are giving you for your car, they should use a fair market evaluation like ccc or somthin that shows comp. vehicles.. this is how they come to the value of your car by finding the same cars in your area.... ins. companies do not use kelly blue book!!!!!!!!!!!!! what blue book says your car is worth is irrelavent....
2) do some of your own research to see what your cars worth ... newspaper, auto trader, online anything but kelly blue book... look for hooked up cars so you can prove that cars w/ mods are selling for more than stock cars...
3) find all of your recipts for your mods , and get a copy of your policy contract
if it doesnt say that they wont pay for that stuff , then they will and must, just remember you arent gettin retail price for your used stuff i.e if you put $400.00 in tires on yer car , does it increase the value by 400.00 ? hell no!!!!
4) if they arent giving you what u want or think is fair go up higher on the ladder
call your adjusters suppervisor and bug them explain your situation to them and 9 out of 10 times they just pay what you want just to keep you a happy policyholder
5) last but not least if all else fails have them obtain some salvage bids and see what they will charge you to keep the car... if its worth it keep the car take all yer parts off them and whatever else u can use and sell .. then call ecology and have them come pick the **** up....
hopes this helps you out.. i always hookup racers when i have claims with them
unless they are ghey *** riceboys lol

vtecnologist1 you are the ******* man. I'm gonna do that tomorrow and see how it goes. A few questions:

So you're saying they would give me $$ for things that is assumed will need to be replaced such as tires?

They say if I buy back the car, it will cost me $2000. Where does that figure come from and is it bargainable?

Yes, they used CCC to get the price of what my car is worth, but out of the 10 cars they were picked, 8 of them were GS or LSs, which has a lower market value than GSRs. Therefore they gave me an inaccurate price for my car.. can anything be done about that?

They're BSing you.. you should only have to buy the car back for like 5 or 10% of what the insurance company says the car was worth. I totalled my crx a while ago and only had to pay $300.

ok .... if your cars a gs-r and the evalvation only came back w/ ls' and gs'
then you evaluation should be low
they use the vin to decode all the options so make sure that the comp vehicles in the evaluation have the same features i.e cruise control, e/c tilt steering that kinda **** . from there you are at a pretty good starting point...
the job of the insurance company is to make you whole.. so basically they have to give you enough money for you to go out and get into the same exact car
if the evaluation, tax, and title fee comes out to be aly less than what the replacement value of the car is worth then they should make an adjustmenat to your settlement... the aftermarket parts , while they say it does not increase the value of the vehicle, if you find hooked up cars in the paper or auto trader selling for more than stock cars, they will have to make an adjust ment for the modifications....
and about the salvage value of your car..that other guy is full of bullshit
how in the hell is he trying to tell me when this is my ****** job and i do it all day long......
every car has a different salvage value, depending on how had the damage is, amnt of salvageable parts and a number of different things
yes they prob charged him $50.00 to keep his crx , but its a crx it has no salvage value..... if someone wrecks an 89 crx thats only worth 3500.00 that cars not even gonna be fixed.....but a gs-r which is newer, more popular, and usually fixable has a higher demand for parts right? think about it.... swap 2-3 grand
interior 4-6 hundred suspension 2-3 hundred and then all the sheetmetal parts
that can be taken off or cut off..... those doors sell for 5 hundered all day
4 hundred on a hatch 1200.00 on a complete clip so the 2k salvage value on that car is pretty acurate but u can always haggle with them
they would rather you keep the car anyways, its cheaper and easier for the company anyways... and the way it works is they just deduct it from your settlement and give you the difference
hope this helps
let me know what happens
