Is there an optimal location to place a bypass valve? Close to throttle body, close to compressor, anywhere in between? I do plan to re route to the intake pipe just to keep noise down unless there are other suggestions. My engine management will allow me to simply vent the valve to the engine bay as well.

 

optimal place is where the vacuum line will be the shortest

 

mine is about 6 inches from the throttlebody. works well!

 

it would be the loudest closest to the turbo, and the most efficent near the IM.

perfect, sounds like i'll plumb it in right next to the throttle body. I will run it without routing back to the intake pipe to see how loud that is. If it is acceptable I won't even bother routing connecting the outlet to anything.

 

you don't want it RIGHT next to the TB but close to it.

also recirculating the BOV does more then just quiet the sound it does infact have performance benefits to it. One of that is quicker spool between shifts.

it will be about 8-12 inches away from the throttle body i think. I don't think the turbo spool is affected by the rerouting, since it would go back into the intake where its open to the atmosphere (except for the air filter of course). Am I misunderstanding you?

 

i don't know.. i have it in both places.. right before the IC, first valve does most of work, and very little left for second one.. because of that, if i would go with one location i would go before IC this time, seems like it would relief pressure faster when its closer to the source (in this case compressor). but i still hear a little work going on second valve (before TB), just not as much as first one (before IC)..

 

you get the least amount of surge chances, and the best engine response with it near the IM 3-6" from the IM.

If you put it right next to the turbo, it will be loud as **** blowing off, but you will have a rush of air coming from the TB side (excess pressure going in the idle ports) and also the influx of air from the turbine, so obviously you have 2 air chanells fighting each other... this is why the performance drops off for this config.

I'd like to quiet the woosh of the bypass valve as much as possible. If I route the valve back into the inlet the hose will be at least 4'.
