Default changing gear oil and in trouble!

.. i have a 91 hatch with a b16 swap... i bought it a month or so ago, and most times (when it is cold) when I put it into reverse, it grinds. i thought that might be due to not having enough gear oil, but when i unscrewed the fill plug a **** load of gear oil started to come out!! I put the plug back in and came here for help!! the car is on the rack and i need help quick!! please help!!

p.s. if it wasnt the lack of gear oil, why is my reverse grinding?

PLEASE HELP!!!!! THANK YOU!!

jack up the right side of the car. and you must wait for it to be completely cool.

You probably undid the drain bolt. The fill bolt is closer towards the firewall, above the passenger's side axle.

My mustang is the same way, 90% of the time if I dont put it into another gear first reverse will grind.

if you still grind then you would probably need to adjust your clutch cable.

good luck

Did you check your clutch cable adjustment, How far off the floor is your
clutch pedal when it engages. You might tighten the cable a little.
Good luck
