the pearl and the metallics will be in the base coat so mainly the only thing that you have to worry about is getting the metallics to lay right. do a good 2-3 good EVEN coats. Look at it from different angles and every thing.

pearls are usually painted as a three step process

First: base coat - Main color

Second: clear coat mixed with pearl color powder - gives the pearl effect

Third: straight clear coat - finishes off process

This is just the three different layers of course you can put extra layers of clear or extra layer of base.

Remember thicker isn't better.

Many pearl colors are base/clear. B-92P is a very easy color to spray and it is a base/clear. Just apply enough paint to achieve full coverage, around 3 med. wet coats. A drop coat is referred to a final or effect coat that is used to create a consistent, even application of paint. Some people do it light some do it more on the medium side. Metallics need extra attention to detail, and true, correct technique. Everything also needs to be set up right as far as pressure and gun settings, pattern ect.

As long as your using the correct techniques its not nessesary but it sure wouldn't hurt anything. Every coat of base should be applied in the same basic ways, consistant, proper technique, thickness ect. I would stick to the specific paint brand/ line flash time requirements. Also depends on your reducer, a low temp, fast reducer should flash off completely pretty quick, around 5-10 min. As soon as its flashed your ready for clear. Call who ever is suppling the paint for pricing. I prefer the BASF Diamont paint line myself.

Also waiting 24 hr to clear is most likey to long per the specific paint system requirement. I think BASF has about an 8-12 hr window before you have to re-scuff/ abrade the base.

Just did a blend on a civic with NBP. Came out very nice. It wasn't any different than any other metallic blend job.

Thats with 3 quarts paint, gallon of slow reducer, two quarts of clear, one quart of slow topcoat hardner, mixing cups, filters and mixing sticks.

Wow you stretched your paint thin. I usually reclear most of my jobs. So I use almost a gallon of base (well 3 quarts) and like a gallon of clear.
