Default I love my SMSP header - Got tuned today!

Several months ago, I made my tuning appointment for today at Evans Tuning. I had decided to ditch my VAFC & get a hondata system (I traded some old stock parts for a P28 with S100) Unfortunately, my custom-fabbed 2.5" lca exhaust (using two magnaflo 2.5" core resonators) won't be ready until next week, so I had to tune with a high-flow cat & a 60 mm exhaust. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the results....

I have a basic set-up:
JDM H22 - 60k miles
Iceman intake (converted to short-ram)
IAB's eliminated (made a homemade blactrax spacer by removing all components of butterflys & filling holes)
Removed balance shaft belt
Removed A/C & C/C
Still running PS - but using AEM pulley
SMSP 4-2-1 header
SMSP 2.5" Hi-flow cat
Thermal R&D stealth exhaust

Dynapack Dyno 3000
Temp = 71 degrees
Humidity = 80%

Results:
Peak HP = 195.8
Peak Torque = 144.5

After finishing tuning, peak power was slightly lower (193.5) but more area was under the curve up high. She makes nice linear power up to ~7500 rpm.

Jeff was impressed with how strong the motor is (& so am I). The SMSP header made all the difference! I'll have the graphs up tomorrow after he emails them to me.

Thats awesome dude, great numbers

W/O PS it would have been 200....and if you get another shot at a pull on the dyno try running the intake full length, that should pick up a few ponies.

7500rpm is great on stock cams too, most setups die around 7200.

Actually, it stops making power around 7250 but plateaus until it stops to drop at 7500 rpm. I'll still shift at 7500-7800 rpm (on the track), just so I don't drop the rpms too low.

Where's the torque though? it seems like a lot of JDM H22s are making around 155-160wtq...

Get the graphs up please. What exhaust setup did you have before?

Whoa! That's awesome, Chris! Can I have my header and ECU back now? j/k

My goal was 200whp without cracking the engine open. You are almost there!!

Oh, there is a Porsche DE at Summit in Nov. 3-day event. You should come down for that if you can!

With only bolt-ons? I thought stock they made ~140wtq.

Well, again comparing dynos is a tough world.....I just don't know how that DynoPack number would convert to a Dynojet.<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by PirateMcFred &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">

You usually don't see over 150 unless there are a/m cams involved. But I have seen stock cammed H22's making mid 140's with crappy headers on there.

I don't think removing the p/s would make that much of a difference as far as straight line power which is what a dyno is.

I say get some ET's and we'll really know what the setup can do!

I need to check my graphs, but I thought mine was over 150WTQ on stock cams. I'm thinking 154WTQ, but I could be wrong. Maybe it's 144WTQ.

Here's the graph from the final run. Ended up with slightly less power - 193 but a better curve. Still not as much torque as I would hope for. But it still is a lot of fun on the track!

I'm wondering if the iab delete or the exhaust set-up might have something to do with the torque curve. It was dynoed with a 2.5" hi flow cat that dumped into a 60mm catback (Thermal Stealth). It's not a smooth transition. 2.5" pipe into 60mm. I just had a 2.5" lca exhaust with a 2.5" resonator made (in place of the cat), so I will hopefully get that set-up dynoed later this year.

So minus the other mods you have done, what kind of TQ and HP gains did you see out of the SMSP?

For a JDM H22 with no BS and those mods your TQ seems lowish - but on the other hand it shows how well the SMS carries power on your engine, given how much power you made out of it.

I was only getting 180s out of 140tq, with similar stuff on my US H22.

I meant I have a stock header. Pretty much I have CAI, IM, Flywheel, Exhaust.

I dont know what people are talking about not making more then 150tq, as I said i made 162. Stock cams and gears too.

on a dynojet 228 or a dynapack or something?

you would never make anywhere near 160wtq on stock cams on a dynojet228. ever.

lol, is there even a real way to calculate true TQ and HP numbers¿ Every dyno is different!

It was done on a Dynojet.

My dynograph says "Dynojet WINPEP7"

"Run conditions: 64*, 29.54Hg, SAE: 0.98"

(excuse me on the next, i was wrong in my numbers)

"Max power = 182.62whp Max torque = 163.76"

you should consider the possibility that you got an sir spec-s or an atr with the dual runner IM engine with your swap.

Do you have a pic of the graph? Is that one little freak peak where it missed or is it up there for a while?

Huh? My old H22 made almost 161wtq on stock cams. With IAB it made a flat 140wtq up to VTEC on a Dynojet model 248C. On the stock header and P13 ECU it made 150wtq peak.

All dynos read different...
People need to stop comparing them.
I have never seen a stock cam H22 break 145tq on the dyno I made 156tq with cams. And that was over 10 different Preludes....
Ive also never seen a stock cam Prelude break 180whp on the same dyno I made 204whp with JUNs.

Ok...so maybe not comparing...but from experience it is odd to see those numbers from a stock cam H22...I haven't seen ten (in person) maybe only 4 or 5...but those numbers never came up.

which ones? The ones I listed?
This is the same dyno that was breaking "B" babies hearts clicking high 130's-low 140's from bolt on B18's.
