Still have blue smoke after $1100 worth of work
Hello, i have a 2000 civic si and it has 60k on original engine. i purchased the car recently and it had blue smoke from the exhaust at high revs, and the oil would always get low. i use 5w30 synthetic oil and took it to a shop. they replaced the timing belt, water pump, thermostat, flushed out coolant, , new oil (5w30), machined the head, valve job, adjusted the valve springs and replaced with new seals and gaskets and basically rebuilt the head. they said the 4th cylinder was burning oil but they said it was fixed when they sent it to the machine shop. now after all that i parked my car in the garage and reved it to 7k rpm for about 15 seconds and opened my garage and a whole bunch of blue smoke blew out. what gives????? thanks

Sounds about right considering the head has been redone already. I can't imagine where else the oil could be entering the combustion chamber.

Bad rings... That's the price you pay for having an engine that only makes power at high RPMS. But hey, if they do a compression check and find that it turns up bad, replace the rings, and you're good to go. Don't see this as a waste of money since you pretty much made the head close to new. Now you have less problems to worry about in the future.

How much oil are you consuming?
I would say oil rings are frozen to the pistons, allowing oil to enter the chamber. Most of the blocks I see have moderate to completely frozen oil control rings.
Here is a piston that has this problem, the oil can now flow much easier to the crown, as indicated by the brown varnish just above the first ring landing in red.
