Lowered car owners... jacks? jackstands? lifts? blocks?
Ok, so I was reading redteg1's thread about working with jacks, and I have some questions for everyone with lowered cars...
How do you lift your car (safely) to work on it? I'm lowered only about 1.5 inches, and it seems to be causing all kinds of problems when I try to lift my car to work on it.
One of the main problems I have is the lack of jack points on my 95 coupe. I can jack it up with the scissor jack just fine at any of the four corners, but after I jack it up, how the hell do I get the jackstands under it, and still on the jack points? So far, I've resorted to lifting the car with the scissor jack, and putting blocks under the side of the car right behind the jack points... I don't really consider this the optimal solution, and haven't worked under the car much with this setup, since I don't feel safe.
I've tried lifting it up with a "bumper jack" (similar to a forklift-looking device with two metal pipes sticking out), but it just doesn't fit under the car.
the ramps we have are too steep and I just mash my lip on them before I even start driving up them... I have successfully gotten the car up on them before, using 2x6's as smaller ramps to lessen the angle... but that is a big pain.
So how do YOU raise your car to work under it? I guess another option would be a lift, but that's not really a feasible solution, because of how much it costs.

well when i had my old coupe it was i guess sort of low, not tucked or anything. but anyway id do it by rolling up on some books (thick) like tearing apart the yellowpages and then id jack it up from the jackpoint near the front bumper, just get like a 3 ton floor jack and raise it up. Stupid Honda made it harder for us that when one side can go under a jackstand the other needs to be lifted some more..
Invest in a floor jack. you jack on either the front radiator support, or the rear tie down hook. put jackstands under your jack points by each wheel. Do a search for floor jacks, i'm sure you'll find something.
Use your scissor jacks initially to get one end up first then use a hydro jack to jack up from the front. Then release the scissor jack and raise the car up further with the hydro jack to put in jackstands on the sides. Problem solved!
if you are jacking the front of the car up, postion the jack on the front crossmember. from the rear I never had my crx low enough to where I could not use the factory lifting points
BTW there are also company's that make low profile jacks but be prepared to shell out some cash.

if you cant get a jack underneath just put blocks behind your wheels and roll your wheels up on there and it will give you some room to roll in your jack.
