Default Hydro clutch squeaking, diagnosis?

Hello all:

I'm a n00b to hydro transmissions. I've posted this in the 92-00 forum and didn't get any definitive answers.

Whenever I depress the clutch I can hear a squeaking/creaking noise coming from where the master clutch cylinder is. It's definitely coming from under the hodd and not in the cabin. This noise doesn't affect the clutch engaging/disengaging or affect driveability, it's just making the noise.

I'm just curious if this is a precursor to something failing so that I can replace it ASAP.

This is in an EM1 if it matters, this is just a more general question about hydraulic transmissions / clutches. I figured I'd post here because there are more senior (i.e. knowledgeable) members in this forum that may have better input for me.

Cheers

My friend 99 si has done this for 100,000 miles. It squeaks but there is nothing wrong with it. I wouldn't worry about it

their is a bulletin on this problem, your best bet is to replace it, don't forget to order the c-clip, or we'll install it (262)358-0853

Stock clutch, fluid is full and the color is fine.

I've also heard this from many other 6th gen owners, just trying to make sure nothing bad is happening. Thanks for the input.

OK, that really doesn't help at all. I will check and see if Honda released a bulletin on this. There's no sense in replacing a clutch MC if it works fine.

grease the pin head that presses on the throw out bearing lever.

Its under the black plastic rubber cube.

If that doesn't fix the issue, it might be the bearing it self.

I've also heard this as a problem, but I are teh lazy and don't want to drop the trans ATM.

Would something internal be causing a noise at the MC though? That's what doesn't make sense to me.

the bearing itself could be whats squealing if its not greased where it sits...

Umm...You dont have to drop the tranny to grease the pin/ lever he is referring to.
You just need some wheel bearing grease and pull that boot off near the slave cylinder. Use a mirror to look inside so you can see.

press the clutch while someone listens under the hood. if its coming from the trans just remove the black boot and first spray pb blast on the pivot point while u r pumping the clutch then spray some white grease on it. if its not coming from the slave cylinder the its the clutch master cylinder. the internal spring is rubbing on the housing. its an old manufacures defect. their is an updated part. i do one of these atleast once a month. im a honda tech

Oh, my apologies, again I have zero experience with hydro transmissions. Let me see if I can find what you're talking about.

I will check this out as well. It's definitely coming from the MC area , not the transmission.

Thanks for the good info guys!

Cheers

yup my daily driven bone stock 00 civic ex sedan does that... it's annoying but there no issue. When i stop working so much, i'll probably try to bleed it just to firm it up a bit... hope it would help out with the sqweeking

A squeak, a twang, or a notchy feel when the clutch
pedal is pressed.
PROBABLE CAUSE
The clutch master cylinder spring is rubbing on the
outer diameter of the piston when the pedal is pressed,
or the master cylinder quick connect is moving.

That's great, but this is for a 99 EM1.

I'm pretty sure I know what you're talking about now. There's a portion of the slave cylinder that's covered by a rubber boot. It looks like that cylinder pushes a rod of some sort that is hidden by that boot that releases the TOB? And this is what needs to be greased?

In the picture, the left half of the SC is uncovered, this is the portion that I'm referring to that is normally covered by a cubish rubber boot:

The hydro clutch in my 93 EG squeaked on and off for years and never failed.

The hydro clutch in my dad's 2001 ES1 (LX 4 door) has squeaked on and off for years and never failed.

You should be fine

I'm starting to think that this is the case more and more.

Thanks for the input Dustin.

Actually, I lied. My clutch master cylinder failed in early 2006. But it had squeaked for years...like since 2002/2003. It's something that i'd replace when you get the time but it's not a pressing issue. They are only like $40.

Sorry, forgot

j00 liar!!! Well, A MC holding out for 13 years ain't too bad though. I'll probably end up replacing it at 100K anyways when she gets a major go-over.

Yeah. My red EG was a trooper. At that time, it probably had 180-190k on it. It had the original clutch on it up to 160k (I swapped it for an exedy organic bc I was going turbo...but the OEM one still had a lot of life left).

13 years old and 211k it looked like this:

Still had the stock bottom end and didn't burn a drop of oil. Current owner (now has 230k) doesn't wash/wax it, motor is almost dead, fenderwells are rusting, the clutch fork snapped, and a bunch of other ****. I got rid of it right before it started falling apart
