Advice: Suspension setup for Accord
Hi Everyone,
I've been going to HPDE's for a few years now in my 94 Accord EX with the same setup, and I wanted some input/opinion/advice regarding this setup. It's worked pretty good for me, but I'm sure there is a better setup for this car (spring rate, tire pressure, shock adjustmet, etc). I've done a search, and most of the threads I've seen are setups for civics or integras. I'm sure setup for an Accord and an Integra/Civic may be a little different.
1994 Accord EX
Koni Red(special) shocks: Front 1/2 stiff, Rear full stiff
Ground Control off the shelf spring rate in the front
Generic coilover front springs in the rear
Stock EX front sway
Suspension Techniques rear sway
16x7 rota c8's w/ 215/45/16 azenis
Pressure (HOT) - Front 34psi, Rear 39psi
16x7 rota c10s w/ 215/45/16 hankook rs2
Pressure (HOT) - Front 36psi, Rear 40psi
Neuspeed front Strut bar
OBX Rear strut bar
I want to change the springs to custom rates, but I"m not sure what would work well with this car. Koni yellows will also be installed in the near future.
Thanks!

I'm having some damping problems with 450lbs in the rear with koni yellows. I don't know why but it's there and i'm not sure if others are having the same problem. Small bumps are fine but larger dips at speed will equip your car with hydrolics...ok not that bad but could be better...gotta get them revalved I guess....just a little warning for you.
From my experience, 550lbs front and 450lbs rear is the absolute max ots koni yellows can handle. I've run 700lbs in the rear before and although its fine for smooth autox surfaces (and worked really well actually and was my favorite setup), it's obviously way underdamped in reality.
I also prefer the progress rear bar over the s/t rear bar..even though it's harder to install.
My 2 cents.

I think theres 2 other guys with 5th gens in here.
I just auto-x my 5th gen - and had no rear sway in it either. Man, that thing could not rotate at all!
Goodluck! - I didnt play with the suspension at all on it.

Thanks for the input. The information regarding the koni yellows is very helpful. I'll take that in consideration when i replace my shocks and springs. When you say the Progress bar is harder to install, what do you mean exactly? Is it due to the drilling that's involved if any?
yep, progress requires drilling four holes. Not hard at all...just annoying. It's worth it in my opinion. Thicker than s/t and better geometry.
I definately had no problem with rear s/t either. Easier to install and cheaper. Just depends on your spring rates.

Is this a track only car?
If So
Go as high on the spring rates as as your shocks will handle.
I use 900 front and 1100 rear Eibach springs on H & R Type R Group A race shocks. I would use a bit higher rear spring rate but the current valving won't allow any more spring rate.
I just use the S/T bars

Fastom:
This is a dual duty car for now. So it has to be streetable to take me to and from work. It will eventually become a track only car. So for now it'll be on Koni Yellows.
You mentioned you are running on H&R Type R Group A race shocks. Are the shocks meant for some sort of type r, or is that just the name of the shock. Are they adjustable, and if so, what do you have them adjusted at?

I'll do some research on the progress bar.
Thanks for the info guys!! Glad to see other Accord owners tracking/racing there car.
