Default cooling problem after new thermostat fitted

i fitted new rad couple weeks back, bled coolant (took rad cap of, heater on full and just let car idle until warmed up and no more air bubble were coming out and topping up as necessary), ran car for a week and been perfect (fan doesnt kick in but thats another issue im slowly trying to diagnose)

anyway ive just fitted new mugen fan switch and brand new lower temp jackson racing thermostat (both original items were fine, just improving cooling)

basically appears thermostat isnt opening as bottom of rad and lower pipe just stays cold after letting it idle for long time while trying to bleed coolant

now is this indication that thermostat is faulty or could it be something else ?

should i take stat out and drop in boiling water to see if it opens and will i clearly be able to see it opening to find if it is faulty or not ?

Suspending it in a pot of boiling water is the way the Helms has you test the thermostat anyhow - so yeah, do that.

ive just tested original stat that i took out (cooling system was perfectly fine when in) and it doesnt move at all when i tested it

what are the chances of old that was working fine and brand new both to suddenly be faulty, im gonna take the new jr that if fitted out tommorow to test but if that doesnt move i aint buying jr again (i can get hold of another new 1 to test though)
