GLS vs. Honda Tranny Fluid
To be honest with you... I have no idea wtf GLS is...but thats what the lubeXpress guys put in... To make a long story short... My 5th gear was grinding when I didn't double clutch, so I got the tranny fluid changed by lubedudes, didn't help so i took it to the dealer to get fixed under warranty... they said wrong stuff is in there... that I need regualr motor oil... and wont honor my warranty.... I have a 99GSR...
Please help...!
Thanks

honda will only warrant if it was replaced with 5w30 or 10w30 motor oil or with honda MTF (much better), any other fluid will void warranty
GLS is a manual tranny fluid for GM and Chysler cars, not sure if its anything close to motor oil...
basically first try to get the warranty work from dealer, then only thing left is to go after the lubexpress guys

Where it stands right now is...I escalated it up to ACURA themselves..opened up a case with them, and I am going to put in 10w-30 today. I'm going to get these a$$wipes though because
1) They already put a short block in at 9,000, and I bought it with 6,000 miles...
2) Did tell me about any work done on the car before (there seems to be a ton)
I've only had the car for 20 months... I think there are going to be more and more issues with it...

It just befuddles me how a place that SPECIALIZES in lubrication can put the wrong stuff in your car. That's like the dentist putting foot cream on your tooth instead of anisthetic.
These people absolutely must take responsibility for f**king up your tranny. I am mad, and I'm not even you!
EDIT: to be clear, my opinion is for you to go after the lube guys. What did the dealer do to deserve having to cover this damage?

It was already grinding when I went to the lube guys... I only went there because I didn't want to go back to the dealer... With or without the wrong stuff, it was still grinding. The grinding isn't worse, its still there. The fact that the dealer hid stuff from me when I bought the car means they need to correct that by having to repair stuff on it as long as my warranty warrants it....Actually when everythign is said and done, I think i'm getting rid of the teggggg...
i've has one for 3+ years now, this 'lemon' is making me hate them...

You should use 10w-40. I know on the 94-95GSR, the owners manual say use 10w-30 or 10w-40. I first put in 10w-30 and it shifted like ****. I then did it again, this time with 10w-40 and it was MUCH BETTER/SMOOTHER. I never tried Honda MTF because it's expensive, like $4 a quart. Why bother when 10w-40 oil is like $1 a qt and ***** very well/smooth.
But anyway, yeah, like what someone said. Just put in the proper wt. motor oil and bring it to another dealer and play dumb.

I dont know about 'ruin'... I've had a 96 Prelude Vtec before (totalled, hit from behind), 95 Integra GSR (stolen in newark), and now I have this 99 GSR... I had absolutely no problems with the previous 2 cars, this one seems to be different... I think they sold me something that was a piece of crap...

guys, if you do a search on the boards, there are some great informative topics that help to clear up why you should run nothing other than honda mtf. in the end, it's all up to the owner, but for me, i only use original honda mtf.
