Auto Transmission problem or normal?
Hey guys. I'm the third owner of my 96 Accord EX. I'm not sure if this is normal or not. So when I'm trying to pass someone (stepping on the gas), the transmission is suppose to downshift a gear right? The RPM was pretty low for cruising. I'm like 3/4 of the way of the gas pedal, and still doesn't go. Sometimes it has a huge delay. Is this normal?
And also when is the torque lock up occur? Mine engages at around 50mph at 4th gear. Sounds about right?
I know on the 6th gen, steeping a little made the gears change easily.

Well it's kinda hard to explain. Each time I want the car to downshift (by pressing the gas pedal down further) it takes a while for the computer to tell the tranny to downshift.
Is this normal though? or do I have a bad sensor?

If you floor it and it downshifts within ~0.5-1 sec, then it's fine.
Maybe you think you're pushing the gas pedal down far enough for it to downshift, while the computer thinks it's not far enough.

That may be the problem. Let's say I was pushing it down far enough. Would the TPS be bad in this case?

Thanks for that advice!
I'm not worried or anything, I'm just asking is this normal or not. I'm not the first owner, so I don't know what it was suppose to be like. If I knew what it was suppose to be like, would I even post this thread?

If it takes longer than a sec. then maybe there is a problem. And who ever said your car has a 4spd and it won't drop yes it will drop down to third until u hit about 90mph.
But anywayz try downshifting with D3. I just do it for the hell of it lol.

The 6th gen downshift cutoff into 3rd is at 80ish mph. If you're going faster, it will only go out of lockup but will stay in 4th. You can always manually put it in 3rd above 80 tho. I don't see how a 5th gen would be much different from a 6th gen.
