Default Finished 10 point cage

Figured I would start a new thread since I finally had some time to finish up the cage. This project would have been much easier with out those huge EVO XL seats. The E36 is very very narrow and these seats are just plain wide.

This car is in process of a LS9 stroker with a T56 and Ford 8.8 IRS build. The cage is more far the drivers safety than anything but he does plan on competing in some DE events and such.

seams like the door bar might be a bit of an elbow buster when driving, is this a drag car or something?

It's not. It was built with SCCA in mind and NHRA second.

Fitment looks about as good as it gets. I can't imagine street driving with that though. Bigger cars aren't so bad, but driving around with metal all around just has a dangerous feel to it. A helmet and padding makes it fine at the track, but street driving + accident=bodily injury if you ask me.

Anyone ever get in a descent vehicular impact on the street with a full cage like this?

wow! amazing job...the fitment and welds are top notch! I just cant get over how tight it fits. I think I'd waste at least a 100 feet of tubing before I got it perfect like that

cant they just put the foam padding on it with like zipties to get rid of the danger with crashing without the protective gear somewhat.

Just any mounting pics, where the seat bolts on.... I see pictures of the bottoms of these seats for sale on ebay, and I just have no clue how they are mounted!

Building your own seat brackets are a PITA. If they are available after market they are worth buying no question. The drivers seat I built to work on the factory BMW sliders. It requires cutting off the seat sliders from the original seat (rendering it trash) and heavily trimming and modifying it to fit the seat in the desired position. I positioned it so that the owner of the vehicle will have his seat almost all the way forward since he is 5'8 ish and still a 6'1 driver could fit. I also had to build a little pull for the slider mech which was previously cable activated and built in to the factory seat. The passenger seat is positioned as low and far back as possible to not impede the drivers visuals.

scca what?

ITE and SPU are the only classes that cage might be legal for.

those classes are extremely crazy classes. SPU needs a fuel cell also.

ITE has EVO's, STI's supercharged vetts, and what not.

It just doesn't really seem to be built with SCCA road racing in mind.

I just didn't see how you were contributing anything to the thread. Who said the car was anywhere near being done? Yes the car will get a bolt in fuel safe cell if that makes you feel better.

I'm not sure how you are saying that the cage was not built with road racing in mind?
Seems like a pretty ignorant statement.
