Running slower on track due to new mods???? Please Help!
Ok guys help me out with this cuz I am lost. my best time on the ¼ mile (for a guy that is barely learning how to launch) is 15.6. I had a 92-95 civic aem cold air on my em1 and a custom exhaust with two inch piping. Since then I slapped on an aem cold air fit for my car and replaced the muffler with and HKS Hi-Power. I went out to the track last week and my best time was 16.1. could it be b/c of the bigger intake size or my exhaust?? I know my other muffler(custom) was more free flow than the HKS.
I am just trying to figure out why I would go 0.5 seconds slower…THANKS GUYS!

well yes 15.6 is a bad time for an em1 i do agree but i am barely learning how to launch. i dont drag too often. but i wouldn't blame it on that for going 0.5 seconds slower than usual. ihave gone about 3-4 times and this is my first time getting 16.1

agree. torque lost at low rpm

i know my launching is horrible right now but do you think i should switch out my AEM cold air for something else?

Last time I checked 15.6 was about right for a more or less stock EM1. If you're curious about the intake causing the difference, go to the track, make some passes on your current intake and then swap in the old CAI and make some more passes, see what the difference is. It's possible that you may just need a valve adjustment, maybe your plugs, distributor cap would use a replacement, air temps etc. Look at the MPH of your runs and that will help determine if you're really slower or not.
i think it is just driver issues and i need to learn how to launch correctly. i mean i admit i baby the car and i dont take it to the track often
the top end is fully built with CTR cams, has every single bolt on you can think of, and is tuned with hondata s200

more experienced 1/4 mile launchers have more consistent times. when they change things on their car, and get different numbers, they can safely assume it was a direct result of the mods they did. however, the deviation in your times is too small, considering you're not an experienced 1/4 launcher, to determine whether or not your mods caused it. i think the cai and exhaust were good upgrades for you. don't worry about your track times. there were probably many factors that led to the slower runs, including inconsistencies in the way you drove. could've even been something like tire pressure.

Eh, cut him some slack, he said he's still learning to launch.
@ OP:
It's probably just mental. Sometimes you're in your game, sometimes you aren't. It varies from day to day. Even professional drag drivers have bad days where they jump or leave late, miss shifts, etc.
Go back, see if you can knock it down.
What are your 60' times?
Another possibility is that since the AEM CAI raised your HP slightly it changed your RPM band a bit and the way you're launching is creating too much tirespin.
Keep working at it, you can get it below your 15.6.

ok so you actually we're slower in mph after....so then it pointing less towards the driver and more towards inconsitencies in the cars performance
and get those 60 foots down to 2.3 at least and you should see a nice gain in time...but ya as mentioned above i would do a tune up, and check tire pressures

You look at MPH because it is directly related to the amount of power the car is making. You'll notice that even when someone launches inconsistently, their ending mph will usually be the same. 60' and reaction time really only affect the finnish time at the end of the 1/4.
Want faster times, practice. Want to know if your car is making more or less power than before, pay attention to mph, not dyno's or times.

Listen to 00red_sir. It is correct that your MPH is directly related to your power. Same with me, I have a turbo ls and dont have slicks
so when I go to the track I look at my mph, I'm not worried about the time, its bad becuase I have no traction for half of the track. On that same note, if I was to aquire traction and run a really good time my MPH is going to be about the same, thats how it works
Same with you, before you get more experiance and learn how to launch well look mostly at your mph times, that will tell you much more about how fast your car is than the time imo.

if you get those 60' fts down to around a 2.2 or 2.3 youll be around 15.2 maby or maby not, i run 2.3's all day in my single cam but its still slow.
not to thread jack but just one question quick. my fastest time in my hatch was 15.5 at 88mph with a 2.5 60' which is weird because if i get a great launch and run a 2.2 60 i will end up running slower. maby its just my half track driving.
