Default Gearing question for the Honda Tech Gods :)

I am running a USDM ITR tranny... I have been mostly told that I need to be crossing the finish at the top of 4th. Is this the case?

I'm Running 24.5 slicks hitting the rev limiter right before the traps in 4th.
Should I install a LS final drive on my type-r Diff?

I didnt think the LS final drive fits on an ITR diff?? maybe try the MF 4.05 which was really nice in my ITR trans.

If the motor can handle the extra RPM, try that. otherwise maybe throw in a GSR 4th to make it a bit longer, assuming its compatible with the B16/ITR trans.

4.05 is just crazy......

@ 10500 on a 24.5inch tire, you are looking at 170mph in 4th gear....

you let me know when that happens

even @ 9500 you are still looking at 154mph....
@ 10,000- 162mph..

with most of the setups out there today, they are still making/holding power past 9500.

the taller final will accelerate quicker.

you say you dont want to rev that high? well what happens when you fall out of power between gears ? you lose.

24.5" tire, 4.05FD, ITR trans:
Gear Shift RPM Speed @ 8500 RPM
1st N/A 47.4
2nd 5539 72.7
3rd 5887 104.9
4th 6454 138.2
5th 6511 180.4
RPM in top gear at 75 mph: 3534

same setup at 9000RPM:
4th gear 146.3MPH

I think he could run the 4.05FD but its not going to be the best option at his power level and would be better with a higher rev limit or other OEM FD/gearing. Hes probably got enough power to trap low 130s so he will still have some wasted RPM/MPH left in 4th gear.

i still say the 4.0 is silly, you are going to need more power to go the same e.t.

just bumping the rpm up 500 from 8500 to 9,000 with the 4.4/24.5 will allow him for 134-135mph. also, it will help recover between shifts, being that its most likely going to drop down into a larger power area, then say when he shifts from 8500.

I rev my car to 9500 with 24.5 inch tire and i am right at the rev imiter in 4th. It does not fall off between gears, and is blowing the tires off on the bottom end.

I spoke with kevin (projekteg) and he said we were going to try to take it to 9K... he told me to keep my shift points the same but streatch it in 4th...

Too bad you can't do gear based rev limts

how large is your power band? what does the rpm drop to between gears? have you taken this into consideration? where is your dyno chart? boost control/tire pressure/suspension are huge. this is where the fine tuning counts !
reguardless of what you say.... im going to have to say when you switch gears, you drop to a smaller "power bracket" than if you would rev it up another 500 rpms... you will go slower this way. (unless your power "curve" happens to be flat from 7,000-9500... which im doubting)

thought type r ring =gsr ring
b16 ring =ls ring
as in bolt spacing. not ratio.

if i remember the ls ring wont fit the type r diff.
i know for a fact gsr wont fit b16.

going by that.. im going to say your car is capable of traping over 135, and you will hit the limiter of 9,000 before the traps as well. maybe you want to take it up another 250. to 9250 to play it safe. this will also drop you into more power between gears.

Why would you want that...just set the Rev limiter to 9500-9600 RPM and call it a day.
