Hole in my Tranny......
I was in a wreck recently where this b**** ran me off the road and i ran over a curb head on.... most of you can guess what happens when a slammed car hits a curb head on... but anyways the curb hit the belly of my tranny and ripped a good chunk out of it....its not too bad...it stretches like an inch or two to the left of the clutch and flywheel.... and advice on what i should do...... should i get a new casing or get some kind of steel plate welded over to cover my clutch and flywheel?
It sounds like you do not want to pull the tranny to fix the bell housing, this is needed to keep water and road grime out, it is also strength to hold the overall tranny to the engine. SO, barring no major HP 1/4 mile runs you could make a sheet metal cover, drill and tap some small holes in the bell housing to mount this piece of sheet metal and make a dust cover, many trannies also have dust covers that offer no strength towards the mounting or the tranny to the engine.
I am assuming there was no damage to the flywheel or clutch assy and that you can drive the car just fine. No welding there, its aluminum and it seems that a dust cover should fix you up if you do not want to go all the way. Is just the bell housing available as a seperate part???
