Can the metal tube that connects the intake arm to the valve cover (top left of valve cover) be replaced by a silicone hose?

Is there a reason that the metal tube is there between the hoses? I don't see why it wouldn't be possible, but I figured it's there for a reason.

most aftermarket intakes use a silicone hose, it might be there to help heat the motor when it is cold if anything.
