Default Runs in clear... pretty bad

Finished all the clear.... put a good 4/5 coats on. car looks half decent but there are some major runs on both quarter panels and a few on the fenders. I started hitting the runs with 1000 grit wetsanding and that is just not doing it justice so i started on another run with 1000 grit dry and it cut it down pretty good but it used up a lot of sand paper... will it be safe to use 800 grit dry on the runs to remove them and then wetsand 1000 then 1200 over that and reclear? thanks Also there is a lot of orange peel on the car that 1000 wet is just not getting rid of. can i dry sand the whole car with 800 dry then 1000---->12000 wet and reclear if i dont break down into the color?

thanks

why 5 coats of clear? anyways, take a fresh razor and scrape at it going longways with the direction of the run. it will only scrape the run but make sure you're careful to not gouge the paint. you can sand down the corners of the razor so they're less dangerous.

i wouldnt recommend this for someone thats inexperienced. i would say to sand with some 2000 grit wet and wet sand the runs out. it sounds to me like ur just not taking the time. i have taken some massive runs out with 200 wet. if u want try 1500 but i wouldnt recommend even using 1000. its too easy to cut through with 1000. it takes time.

also, i wouldnt recommend sanding then re clearing if u dont need to. if all it is is orange peel and runs, just wet sand it then buff. also, alot of ur orange peel might have something to do with 5 coats of clear. all u nee is 2 wet coats.

ok so after wetsanding and getting all of the runs out the whole paint job is going to look dull... just buff after that and it should look right? also what kind of compound do you recommend using when buffing.. thanks

3M Rubbing compound...on the back it should say "is able to remove 1200 grit sanding scratches, etc." and then get some final glaze. be sure to have a good buffer too.

dont try to dry sand them out, it uses up way to much paper. you can wet sand them out using 800 first and a flat block, then step to 1000, and you can even go over it with 2000 before polishing. the 2000 speeds up the polishing process tremendously.

Wow dude 4 to 5 coats thats ya problem there buddy! First off the only time u need more than two coats is if u trying wet sand base coat wich is only done with straight color and no pearl or metalic! Hot Rods where base sanded to give u that flawless glass finish but thats to much time and money on base coat alone! Anyways i could go on and on but did u mix pearl or metalic in ya clear? If so u can't wet sand it u will have to dust coat that area again, but if u didn't use metalic or pearl in ya clear coat then use 1200 grit wet sand in a soft circle and rub ya flat palm back and forth slowly to see if its even or close to being even then compound buff and then hand glaze then tack, then slow orbital buff finish glaze! wolla!

no metallic or pearl at all

right now i hit it with 600 on the runs and then hit it with 1000 and then 1200... next im hitting it with 2000 and then using 3m compound to buff. I did the fender so far and it looks very good so i dont think ill have a problem with the rest.
