ok my friend wants to buy a civic si hatchback and the guy wants 3k for it but it idles at high rpm when cold!! is it worth buying for this much? how much would it be to fix the problem?

3k for a si eg hatch.is the body shap in good condition?3k sounds a bit pricy to me and u can adjust the idel screw to the normal idel.

 

the idle screw isn't going to do anything, it's at cold idle, my car does the same thing but after a while it starts to surge up and down, i cleaned my iacv but that didn't do anything. idles fine when warm though.

 

check the small ground wires by the thremostat for your surging problem i had 2 friends cars that did that and all it was that the wires were about to fall off and was making a real shitty connection, it fixed thier problem

 

vacuum leak ftw, sometimes when theres a vacuum leak people turn up the idle to keep the car running. if they did that it would idle high at start up maybe even 3k+ rpm, but after warm up itll have a idle surge . pinch the all the vaccum lines one at a time and see if the idle levels out and or rises ,holds after warm up . of coarse check by eye for any lines that are not connected.
