Milwaukee, Dewalt, Porter-Cable, Ridgid, Bosch and Metabo (Both American/German) all make chop saws.

Be ready to spend 3-5 times more than you would for the HF saw. (That's not a bad thing)

they might be american companies but that doesnt mean there made in the US. At home depot the chop saws from dewalt were made in MX Meatbo in Germany, and Miluakke was china

Not anti china just PRO USA. I rather support american workers and my own country. Everything i have ever bought from china is junk (especially tools). I just got off the phone with miluakee and every chop saw they make is made in china or taiwan

Most people are biased against chinese built tools because chinese tool steel qualities are notoriously low. Chinese end mills, drill bits, etc. are total crap compared to the american equivalents.

I personally don't believe this transfers over to power tools, where I think the company and design matters more. For example, I just bought a new Ingersoll-Rand die grinder and nibbler for our shop. The IR pneumatics are the best in the business, yet made in China and Japan.

Our Mikita chop saw is one of the better ones I've used, also made in China.

The Milwaukee 14" saw, btw, is total crap compared to the Mikita.

I doubt you'll find anything actually made in america, chop saws are not precision tools. I think you are shopping the wrong way.

That's probably the best choice for what you are looking for, most of the components will be either American made, or up to American steel standards; plus it's a well founded tool company, with good standards and warranties.

Hardly any unions fault, corporations always fallow the path to the cheapest place to operate to make make a maximum profit. its simply a numbers game, there is more to it than wages. If any thing blame corporations attitudes and policies and government policies.

Blame Wall Street. Those bastards are the **** demanding the companies squeeze every last bit of profit for their caviar and yachts, and the last one to ever need a tool.

IMO Makita makes great tools, but usually anything you buy from a retail store will be of lower quality - regardless of brand. I know for a fact that the Makita stuff we get for our rental department is different internally from the stuff on the shelves.

BTW I got the milwaukee 14" because it was 25% off (lost in the shelves for 2 years after clearancing it). So far its been fine, except I'm wanting to make a better clamp for it, and it rusted quickly in my humid garage before I got to oiling it.

i have to laugh. i live in milwaukee and used to be involved directly with manufacturing for milwaukee power tools and other area businesses. the unions are not 100% to blame, but they sure messed things up and just made it impossible to compete with the opportunity to manufacture overseas. the unions were just about 100% to blame for brigs and stratton moving thier engine manufacturing plant out of here.

the union attitude in this country has really hurt american manufacturing.

there a lot of reasons why things are not made in the US. The most notable is that you wont pay the prices they demand, period. quality AMERICAN product costs a lot more to produce because of living expenses, minimum wages, and price gouging by business owners/corps.

oh and btw just cause its made in the US doesnt mean its any better than a foreign product. i.e. american cars, electronics, food, etc. all garbage

DeWalt is just Black & Decker crap in a yellow case so it looks "professional". B&D was a good company two decades ago, but their stuff is junk now. After getting a bunch of it a couple years ago, I will never buy anything from them again. Everything broke within a year and a half. I have had much better luck with Hitachi and Mikata stuff and it is priced competitively.

I have a US made 110V corded drill. I have used it for the last 8 years as an electric die grinder. I think it has well over 1000 hours of full speed use. Do you know how many chinese made drills I would have used so far?
I have a newer Sears corded drill made in china that lasted 2 months... I still have my old US made drill and it works.
