Balancer Shaft seal!? (F23) -PIC-
Hey there!
I'm currently doing my timing belt job. 226 000km and it's her first time. I'm surprised it lasted that long especially here in quebec with out hot and humid summer and freezing winters..
I noticed a little leak from my balancer shaft seal (belt side) and i'm not sure how to replace it since in my manual (honda) they use a special tool to drive it in..
Also, i know the f22 requires a retainer to make sure it doesnt pop out and screw you over.. I dont have any on my F23..Should i try to find one or it's just not needed (due to a new conception, or something like that)?

Thanks!

I have also quickly read about simply removing the balancer shaft belt.. Freeing some hp's..
But, without any special kit to condemn the shafts (for those who remove them) would it work by simply remiving the belt and letting the shafts loose!?
lol risky **** IMO

Leave your balance shaft belt in place. If you don't your engine will shake horribly. To replace the seal you have to remove the sprocket. There is a hole in the shaft that I use to hold the shaft still while removing the bolt. Don't scratch the block when removing the seal. I use either a socket and a prybar to install the new seal or sometimes since the bore was oversized by mistake I can just push it in with my fingers. The retainer is recommended and is available from most aftermarket sources.

yeah it was probably not leaking because when i removed it there wasnt any sign of failure. I think it was more of a problem with the timing belt cover wich allowed dust to set in at that spot.
but might aswell play it safe. they had 226 000km in them so i got new ones with the balancer shaft seal retainer
