my car got keyed yesterday. what are the solutions for this?
see if i was caught on video, and beat the person with a petrified platypus, got any pics?
if the scratch isn't too deep you should try and buff it out. if it is then <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by rpared01 »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">look up your color code and go to autozone and buy those touch up pen for scratches.</TD></TR></TABLE>
like mentioned above, it all depends on how bad it is.
if it's minor go for touch up paint and a good buffing. If it's down to the metal you may need to have the area resprayed and blended.
If it's REALLY bad you may have to have that enture panel repainted.
I had to have a door worked and resprayed after some butt whistle decided it looked like a good place to kick with a spiked boot.
Basically if the paint matches the OEM perfectly it will be difficult to tell, if not impossible.

This belongs in Paint & Body.
But how to fix it really depends on how bad it is. Pics? Can you catch your fingernail in the scratch?

Who'd you **** off?</TD></TR></TABLE>
It's happened to me a few times. I have about a two foot scratch on my spoiler because someone with fake nails happened to walk by one night (had just moved, no one knew I lived there). Some other time someone left what appears to be knife scratches in the clearcoat of my c-pillar.
None of my damage is bad enough for me to think I pissed anyone off anyway. They just didn't try hard enough.

quit pissing people off...problem solved
there isn't much you can do to make a key scratch pretty again. it'll always look like ****. just deal with it for awhile, save your monies and have it resprayed on the keyed panels.

Maybe not where you are. You just need to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, if you haven't already pissed anyone off. Got my car keyed on the fender by some random hooligans a few halloweens back.
My ultra sensitive alarm beeped when they did it, and I got one with one of them tiny pumpkins.

paint codes if you need them

The color code should be in his driver's door jamb. He doesn't even need to know the color name in order to match it. In fact, some colors have multiple versions, thus the code must be known, not the color name.

Yeah, when I worked at a bodyshop you heard NONE of those "super metallic mint green" or whatever - it went by paint codes - simple as that. You'd plug it into the computer, and it'd tell you how much of each code to mix with how much of whatever other code to get the code you're looking for.
After I left he got a machine that was connected to the computer. It would tell you the level of each can and would measure it out for you. Badass.

Yeah, I should have bolded "usually" - USUALLY they aren't random. Somebody's jealous of your car, somebody hates your car, etc. etc. Though obviously not all the time - some times they are 100% random. I know some domestic driving ******** who would key a Honda just b/c it's a Honda.
Like this one guy, stopped talking to me when I bought a Honda. Ironically enough I started talking to him when I ran into him at the gym a few days ago. I can actually mention Hondas and Civics w/o him getting pissed off...guess he grew up or something.
EDIT:

Good info, I'll add it to the FAQ section.
