Default '01 civic lx - Newbie question...

As stated above I'm new to tuning, so bare with me. I've got an '01 civic lx, that I'm working on tuning. Far as I can tell everything is stock. I've changed the plugs to NGK irridium plugs, and I was going to put better plug wires on, but not wire... What would I upgrade this part with? Not even sure what to call them, but one of the tubes that goes down into the engine (to connect to the plug) is really faded, so I'm sure it needs to be changed. Just curious if I can upgrade this, as I would plug wires.
Thanks for the help...

That's part of the wire... you have to get new wires in order to replace it.

Atleast if I'm thinking the same thing your talking about...

welcome to honda-tech.

Em2/es engine is distributorless so there's no plugs wire.
The thing that you're talking about is the ignition coil, When you say faded, uhm it's only normal to have that brown color because your plug is heating up. If you have a snap of them much better.

Glad you came cus I had no idea what the heck he was talking about... I didn't figure they would've changed the setup that on pretty much the same car (I have an 03)... everything is making much more sense now.

You can get aftermarket coilpacks from ignition solutions and they claim to boost the spark but the cost is not worth it I think its around $400

So all in all, for tuning my car, I don't really need to change those? Like I said I'm new to imports.

What would anyone suggest a good starting point would be for the engine? I've already bought the cold air intake, and the irridium plugs. I want to get the engine up to par before worrying about anything external.

Thanks for all the help...

The only way you're going to see proper hp out of the D17 (your engine), is with Nitrous or a Turbo. There aren't any Superchargers available, nor is there really any way to see hp naturally aspirated. The most you'll see without nitrous or a turbo, would be in the 125whp range.

There's always the option to swap in an engine from a different car, but that would leave you with ONLY K-series engines. Look at the FAQ's for more info. on them.

As toyomatt said... it's all in vain without doing major modification or complete swap, but suggestion, upgrade the suspension and brakes (they can still be a fun little car even though the lack of great power) have some fun driving and save up for the K-swap
