Default Clean me up ASAP please!

Just got at new motor and it needs a lot of cleaning. What is the best way to clean it up and make it look brand spankin new? Also I need to bring out DOHC. I hear use Chap Stick. A lot of coats?

Thanks guys.
I have searched but just found how to paint the valve cover.

Simple Green should work fine, though I'm not sure what you're referring to with regard to the ChapStick.

Buy Hunk's or the Super Tech (From walmart) Engine Degreaser.. Before applying, cover up with a plastci bag and/or foil, your distributor cap as well as your alternator and starter with aluminum foil; also make sure your engine isn't up to operating temperature/hot, you don't want to crack the block or anything like that. Then, gently rinse the mixture off with your garden hose. Repeat. Use WD-40, Simple Green to clean up the hard to reach/clean areas with a rag (rinse the simple green off).

Also I need to bring out DOHC. I hear use Chap Stick. A lot of coats?
No, you can use really fine sandpaper, like 1000 grit after using 800 grit.

Thanks guys.

chapstick huh...

i hit the VC lettering with an abrasive pad or medium sandpaper. you gotta be carefull not to let it hit the paint though if you do it by hand.

for general cleaning i use concentrated purple power (there are some other brands too) and then hose it off real well. for finish cleaning and spot cleaning i use brake parts cleaner generously. it doesn't hurt to have a good assortment of brushes and rags when you clean.

silicone spray really makes rubber parts like hoses and weatherstrip look good.

well i would say while your engine is still cold, go to a car wash place where they have the hyper blast hose and do it yourself car wash

go ahead pop open your hood and go ahead splash your engine bay

but make sure you dont directly spray onto the wires by the fuse box and the distrubitor and after you done that for a few seconds go ahead and go back home.

wide it down with a towel and them use simple green and a tooth brush and that should take care of all the grease dirt and etc...

Simple Green and a brass brush.

Are you pulling the motor apart or just dropping it in?

You can always call a machine shop and ask them about bead blasting a complete motor.

If you had bought from hmotors instead you would have gotten a squeaky clean motor.

Simple green + pressure washer = clean engine.

I needed the motor ASAP so I had to go pick it up rather then wait for shipping.

Yes...tranny looks good. I'm gonna pick up some little wire brushes and a wire wheel for my drill.
I went thru a small scuff pad disc on my dremel just on the fuel rail.
