I just got a 91 HB from my dad for free in pretty good condition so Im using it for a project car. The only thing he said thats wrong is when you shift from 3rd to 4th and 4th to 5th that it sounds like its revving high like the engine wants to take off but its not accelerating fast or anything. So he was saying that he thinks maybe the clutch is going bad but someone else said that it might be something inside the trans. Anyone have any suggestions?

if u wanna no if its the clutch take it on the highway and see if it slips. thats what i normally do. easier then ripping it apart to find out. or it might just be low in gear fluid. check that out and get back to me.

I just talked to my dad he said into 4th and 5th it starts whining and smells like its burning .

 

from my experience when a clutch is bad it slips, it son smell like burning unless ur riding the clutch. to me it sounds more like maybe an adjustment is more the key to ur problem. so just try adjusting the cable and see if that helps.. and if not change the pressure plate release bearing and clutch, can get them pretty cheap in a kit.
