I have a 90 civic DX auto trans. Ive been fixing things ready to get it on the road. Sunday I shifted it in and out of park and backed it up and went forward a couple of feet just to check things out. Monday I get in the car and I cant get it out of park. No lights are on and I press the brake pedal when I try to shift out but to no avail. if someone could help me I'd really appreciate it.

 

Check to see if your brake lights are working. If they're not then your brake interlock won't release the shifter.

Check the fuse and don't press the horn if it is blown as that's probably whats doing it

 

fuse in not blow I just check them all. do you know where the other release is so I can get it into another gear?

 

Do the brake lights work? if not fix that

Is there a key hole in your shift console? push a key in there and you can take it out of park

 

check if the brake lights work, if they dont try looking at the brake pedal switch, replace it with a known good switch
