Default non VTEC to Vtech swap.

I'm thinking since my non vtec 1.7 is gone, I might as well get a ex 1.7 vtec. Wrong or right?? I can get one for a reasonable price including the ECU. question that I have is ......Do I need the wireing harness too or are the plugs and wires the same in both models? Also What do I need to do with my key to function?

Not sure about the harness...the key should still work because I think the starters are interchangeable. But don't take this for fact, I could be wrong.

you would have to get the harness and also reflash the keys because the ECU is different.

In order to do a complete swap, you'll need the engine, the engine harness, and the ECU. The ECU will need to be re-flashed, due to the key immobilizer, otherwise your engine won't be allowed to start.

if your going for the VTEC D17 as a performance upgrade....don't waste you time. Just get a non-vtec D17 and save yourself a headache.

well, would love to do a k swap but i don't have that much money anymore, I purchased a turbo kit, now i'm in for a new motor.....I should have just did the k-swap from the beginning..

Lesson learned,.. K swap = better than boosting a d17 right from the start, unless you have the proper gear, time, equipment, AND a tune shop that can set you up properly afterwards.. The money I believe would be slightly more but the only big difference I think would be the safety of a stock motor running on stock 200 hp right from the start.

thank you.. I have a motor on route. unfortyunatly I have to stick with my d17 for now..
I will however make damn sure everything is working right and have a pro "tune" my ECU properly when it's time to remount the turbo... ahhhhh, the money involved......makes me cry. lol
