Default Welding counterweights to a half counterweighted crankshaft

Anyone have knowledge on how to weld counterweights onto a crankshaft. I have an idea, but would like to hear from everyone else. This won’t apply to most Honda engines because they are dual counterweighted from the factory. I’m aware that an aftermarket supplier might supply one for certain engines. This will only apply to half-counteweighted crankshafts. Haven’t seen this discussed before, so it may become an educational topic.

Doesn't sound like a good idea to me under any circumstance.

Why not just buy a better after market piece

I've heard of people welding crankshafts. For what reason and what exatcly are the welding? I have no idea. I'm to much of a ***** to want to know how to do weld that.

The only reason I've seen a crank welded is if it is scored bad and you want to build up material on the crank and then turn it back down. I've personally seen those same cranks fail... It's just a trick many of the mass rebuilder shops use when they can't find another crank quick.

I have seen counterweights bolted to cranks before.I wouldn't attempt welding weight to a cast crank, but you might be OK with a forged one.But I'm not a big fan of doing any serious welding on crankshafts.

Crankshaft journals can be welded to build up material, and then offset ground to increase the stroke. I'm not sure if it's done all that often anymore, considering the availability of affordable stroker cranks. My scope is limited to the domestic realm though...
