2006 Accord Clutch slipping
I have a 2006 Accord SE, 2.4 l, with 32 K km with manual transmission mostly highway driven and today I noticed my clutch is slipping.
This can not be worn plates since it's only 32 K km conservatively driven and not abused, so what else, leaking the rear main seal oil seal?, clutch contaminated? any one with such experience? Would replacement of the rear main seal be covered by Honda warranty?
thanks,
Andrew

Leaking out the rear main seal would normally get oil on the opposite side of the flywheel, if at all. Not on the clutch side. The oil would probably run down the engine & leak out a little weep hole on the bottom of the bellhousing. Any puddles of oil under the car?
Hello Jim,
not a single drop of oil or any other sign of leakage that I can see.
I suspected the rear main seal since it's often referenced by various sources/books as one of probably causes of the clutch slippage, I have an appointment in the next few days at my dealership to diagnose this problem and I am trying to get more prepared for this meeting,
thanks,
Andrew

Well, I'm just thinking about the possibilities.
Leaking oil seals should be covered by warranty. Worn out clutch disk should be under some kind of 'normal wear' business. Only covered for some shorter mileage (check your warranty book).
I agree 20k miles is real early for a worn out clutch. But I suppose they'll try to avoid covering it by saying it's your driving habits. If you really slip it a lot starting out, I guess it's possible to wear out a clutch that soon.

Hi Jim,
yes, I am sure the dealer will try to blame my driving habits, but I am not a kid learning to drive, with about 600 K km on all of my Accords in the last 30 plus years I have never had any problems with Accords, I still own another 91 Accord with over 300 K km and original clutch, now used by my son and still drives OK. So this clutch failure is really a big disappointment for me, considering how conservatively I drive this days. I noticed all seals are covered by the Honda warranty, but clutch might be excluded, but this is in the context of possible abuse or higher millage, but abuse or hight millage is not a case here,
thanks,
Andrew
