this screeching sound happens on the initial start up and while driving, only when i rev up high. what could be the cause and what do i need to replace? thanks!!

 

in the engine bay? if so probably a belt.

 

Yes, i hear it on the engine. Which belt are you talking about?

 

could be alternator/power steering/ or air conditioning belt.............first go to autozone or whatever auto parts store and buy some belt dressing......spray it on, it (might) make the screeching sound go away. If not then its definitely time to change those belts, but even if the belt dressing works you should still change your belts. Go to the FAQ's and read the Timing belt/water pump sticky......it'll show you how to change those belts.

 

alternator belt loose would cause this noise, tighten it back up
