Garage makeover
Hi guys,
As some of you may know, I bought a house a couple of months ago and after nearly repainting everything I am now ready to give the garage some much needed tlc. The old home owners took very poor care of the garage so much patching, sanding and painting will be needed.
The good:
- wired for internet and phone
- many many power outlets
- has a 220 volt plug and a heater hose already
- very high ceilings
The bad:
- lighting sucks so working on the car with the garage door closed is not an option
- all walls will need much patching
- will need to be fully repainted
- I have to be able to fit my 2006 accord and 1991 civic
- staircase takes up a lot of room
- does not have enough storage for everything I have right now(stereo, cleaning products, power tools)
So I am hoping HT can provide me with some advise and ideas to make this a true car enthusiats garage.
So what should I do for lighting? flooring? entertainment? paint? posters/banners/stickers? shelving?
Here are some pics of it right now:
brand new workbench

nice patching job by the previous owner...

bikes, tires

golf bags way up there

floor

little half wall

high ceiling with crappy lights

stuff i don't have room to store right now

Any comments/advise welcome:clap

Pretty nice place, its better then what alot of people have. My best advice is to make good use of those high ceilings. Maybe make some sort or mesaie?(sp?) And its also a good time to sort out what stuff you REALLY need to have and whats just junk.

cute tool box.
for the light, 2 long Fluorescent should do it. they sell outlet plug type. no need wire in to the wall.
for me, i hate things hang on the wall. it could be much clean with some tall garage cabinets.
and make your own shelf on the wall, where your car is parked. just need
_____ brackets and wood. caost me about 30-35

i just have one suggestion. If you are going to be working on your car in that garage, don't skimp on the floor and the lighting. I have noticed from working in shops and going into shops of my friends that floor color and sheen + lighting make a huge difference in the overall enjoyment of working on your car. I would suggest a high gloss GREY floor and several Flourescent lights. That should fix you right up. good luck. i'm about to do the same to my new house.

You add the "pebbles" yourself. It's not premixed. So if you don't want them, you can leave them out. I used the rustomleum kit and I think it came out great.

awesome idea but a bit expensive.
I could always make my own
I think I will extend that shelf I have for the tires so I use the high ceiling better and create good storage. I will probably then attach lighting fixtures under that shelf so it will be closer to the ground and offer better lighting.
wiring should be pretty easy to do that way also.
