Ok well did a good search an came up with nothing but what i kno already... Im tryna figure out if the older .043" cometic head gasket will work to help silence my vitaras in my D15B??? I havent installed them yet but from what i've heard they're gonna tap pretty loudly with a stock head gasket.. I saw the .051" HG also, but didnt kno if lowering the CR more would hurt anything so I wanna stay as close to stock as possible but also dont wanna be sitting at an idle like TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK.... I tried the F/I forum already had no luck, hopefully someone knows what might resolve this... Thanks...

ps - reason i say "older .043" HG" is because i called Cometic an they said they dont make that one anymore its been replaced by the .030" HG an the next thicker is .051"....

If i were you id use the thicker gasket for saftey. Explicative what little compression you lose. Nothing should tick in your motor unless your valves are out of spec.

 

the vitaras make your compression low as it is no it really doesnt matter what head gasket you use. OEM will be fine. the ticking comes from the pistons slapping the cylinder walls because people dont take the time to make sure that their pistons fit the Motor.

The ticking is due to the fact that the pistons are forged. Forged pistons require more piston-to-wall clearance due to the piston's expansion properties.

IIRC, the Vitaras do come in on the looser side of spec.

 

well if my bored is like 74.983" or something isnt that close enough to 75mm to not make the pistons slap?? Im just tryna build my motor but in a very clean and professional way u know... No noises, fumes, ghetto rigged ****, ect...

i dont think vitaras are forged, plus the technology has come a long way and the forged pistons no longer need to have that loose fit. Thats what my Machine Shop told me.

 

To the OP, what did you end up doing.

I hate missinformation... the vitras are cast NOT forged, the reason that they are som strong is because of the ring land, it is bigger that any forged pison that I have seen.

Also you need to see about high and low silica pistons...high silica is strong but expands ALOT and low silica is weaker but nearly no expansion...the pisons are high silica and worth the money

 

they are Hypereutectic piston

 

I was curious because i have a set of these from my Zuk. I also have a complete d15b, however, the P.O. out z6 pistons in the motor, and tried to run it. Upside, i now know how much needs to be clearenced for the Z6 dome to clear, but i also think the g16 zuk pistons may clear. It is definitely close.
