Car won't start when check engine light is on and sport light is flashing...
I am sure this problem has been addressed before, but I have been looking for it and have not been able to find it.
I have a 1991 Honda Accord EX automatic. I drive the car for a while, stop at a store or something, come back and the car will not start. The check engine light is on as well as the green sport light is flashing. After waiting for about 10 to 20 minutes the car starts fine until i make my next errand stop and I have to wait again to turn it off. Is this something I can fix myself or do I have to take it in to be done at a honda specialist?
Help me please this gets on my last nerve!

its probably your main relay. it controls your fuel pump.when you turn your key on, normally you can hear your fuel pump prime and then the light will go off. so if thats not the case then its the relay. im not that familiar with accords but in the crx its located to the left of the steering wheel behind the coin tray. it souldnt cost no more than like $30 or so and its an easy fix. it will be a little black box that says RELAY MAIN.
this is the reply i say on another site:
problem is a fairly common one for the 90-91 accords, your vehicle speed sensor(v.s.s.) is begining to lose it's grip on life and decides to take a nap every now and then while your driving. It's located on top of the trans directly above the axles.Make sure you get the electronic part and not the part that goes into the trans, after you replace the part the "S"light will also stop flashing.
But I dont know how to do this, can someone explain it to me?

There's more probability it is the main relay. Usually the flashing "S" light is related to transmission problems; but, can also be the main relay. Here is a link with alot of info.:

You can check the trouble codes, by jumping the service check connector, located under the passenger dash side. You may have more than one trouble code and problem. The blinks on the "S" light, is different than the blinks on the "Check Engine" when you jump the service check connector.
A faulty VSS will not cause your car not to start.

Guys i am having a similar issue with my 1990 Accord with an automatic Tranny, except the "S" light is not flashing, its just on all the time and it seems as if the car is start in 3rd or 4th gear. I can shift it manually down to 1st and shift up to 2nd, but when i get to 2nd it seems as if i am in 3rd or 4th? Any ideas.
