Default hydro to cable transmission gear swap, why swap differential bearings?

I'm going to help a friend swap the gear set from an ITR hydro transmission into a YS1 cable case, including the ITR's LSD differential.

From all that I've heard, you have to swap the differential's tapered, roller bearings to the "ball bearing" style bearings that would be on the YS1's differential.

Why?

I've got my own ideas, but would like to hear what others have to say.

(Bense, are you out there??)

Calbe and LS/B16 cases the diff carrier is 3mm wider and uses 18mm wide bearings.

The GSR/ITR trannys, the replacement bearings for the tapered style are 19.5mm wide to match the carrier which is 3mm narrower.

I wanna say 86mm vs. 89mm without bearings pressed onto the diff.

Now that just leaves me confused.

That means that if you put the "thinner" differential carrier out of a ITR, with the thinner roller bearings installed in a YS1 case, it would be "loose" by 3 mm!

None of the write-ups I've seen say anything about having to shim out the 3 mm.

bone, the needle bearings from the gsr/itr have weird washer/shim things.

From what i've been told people use the 80x40x18 ballbearings because they are easier to work with.

The needle bearings have been superceeded by normal ball bearings.

Last THREE GSR trannys I've worked on have all had normal ball bearings as install from Honda.
