Default paint/body guys, give me the bad news...

today i was at a friends house measuring some things on my car, and a bunch of his friends showed up. i walked out from the front of my car and i noticed this big *** scratch in the side of my car. i said 'wtf is this!' and noone said anything. my friend was pissed, but noone would man up. i know 100% it happened there at that location because a few times i was standing next to that part of the car showing them some stuff and never saw it. it's so blaring i def would have noticed it. one of the remarked how clean it was...

how bad is this? the base and clear are cleared out, just primer and some bunched up base. how much blending would have to be done? it makes me mad because my car is 10 years old, and i've had it for 9.5 of them. i've kept this thing mint and then something like this happens.

thats actually not that bad of a place to have a scratch cuz you have that body line. a lot of painters can just back tape right at that line and blend to the sides. if the color is a good match atleast you wont be able to see the difference becuz of that shadow area right under the body line. I hope you understand what Im saying. in other words. Its bad but not as bad as if it was in the middle of your door

To do it proper they will need to fix the spot, blend paint on the quarter and the door and clear both..If its a shop that really cares about their work and such they will clear the whole a post instead of doing a burn halfway up it

Blending agents are getting better, thats a good candidate to try a blend on. If it doesn't look perfect it didn't hurt anything, and you can go ahead and clear both panels. I would try and stay away from having to much paint material on the car, it looks like this is the second coat of paint at least.

English FTW

If you brought that into my work and depending on the color match, I would try to keep the blend in the quarter panel. If it was any bigger or closer to the door you would have to blend onto the door. You might be able to get away if they can get a good color match. The quarter would be blended, then cleared up to the pillar, then blending agent applied to fake the clear in. Or you could go all the way down and back around to the a pillar...but that wouldn't help the price.
