Default ek wont start help

OK so i got this 98 civic hatch from a friend. It would occationally stall out and to start it again you would have to start it with the gas nearly floored or else it would stall again. He said it was the torque converter (hes a certified auto tech) so i went with what he said...not sure if that could really cause it. But i got a trans from a friend and put it with the accompanying torque converter. It started fine right after the swap. Then i let it sit for 2-3 weeks. came back and the car would not start. I assumed the battery was dead, i jumped it and it was fine, again a week later the same thing. but this time id jump it and it would die a few mins later. I assumed the battery was just done, so it sat again for a week or so and i came back with a new battery, new battery in...does not start anymore at all. It will try to turn over...then dies. Ive taken the fuel line off and its getting fuel, the pump primes, i get power (dash lights, beeping, etc) i havent actually check all the plugs but i assume since its trying to turn over that there fine ( i could be wrong). It sat for awhile so its got 3 new gallons on 94 the last time i tried to start it with some injector cleaner

anyone have any suggestions let me know. The motor is a d16 (non-vtec).

Replace or clean up your cap and rotor. Check out your plug wires and actually pull the plugs and check for wear and deterioration. If they're fine, check the gap and adjust as necessary. Don't just assume that they're good, as they have nothing to do with if the starter cranks the engine or not.

alright well i put a new igniter on it, and it started. i let it run for 5 min idling. when i came back out it was still running, as i went to get in it to drive it around the block it stalled out and will not start again, i think part of the issue was the igniter and now i think the problem could be bad gas. If the car just shut off like that i have to think it sucked some **** from the tank and died out. (it did sit for a grand total of a year with only like 3-5 starts.)

If anyone else has any opinions let me know, i also need to know how i am suppose to go about getting the shitty gas out the tank. or preventing a new fuel filter from just getting clogged right away from the rest of the shitty gas still in the tank

if your having that many problems you should promptly rip out your engine, and computer and just GIVE it to a kid named nick who lives in Maine.

find someone with the same engine and swap dizzys for a few hours , see if it still stalls. a certified tech said the reason the car was stalling was a torque converter? jesus , thats somin else man , watch where you take your cars boys , just goes to show.

ok well, i drained the gas tank, put 3 gallons of new fuel in it and replaced the fuel filter. still wont start. When i called the honda dealer the other day they said either the igniter or ignition switch, being as how i have now ruled out everything else. im gona try to get an ignition switch from a friends EK this week and give that a go.

As always if anyone has any other ideas let me know. Id be willing to try

well for anyone still watching this, it turned out to be the ignition switch. I went to a local junkyard and got as switch, put it in and the car turned right over.
