Default From cold auto transmission won't shift.

i have had this problem for awhile and i was hoping some one here could help me out. First off i have a 91 accord lx 2dr automatic. Thing is when i first turn on the car shift it to drive it will run in first gear for a block or two. I cant drive over 25mph until it shifts. There is also NO check engine light. after the car warms up i can shut it off and fire it back up with in like 2 hours and wont have any problems.

sounds like your tranny is going out...how many miles are on it? flush your tranny and see if that helps the problem...but mmy experiance with auto trannys is when they start to go there on there way down hill......although you may have a bad tourqe converter? does it shift hard when it does? hope this helps

depending on the tranny miles an actual flush may actually be worse but a fluid change can never hurt

tranny fluid is full. I had it checked when I went in for an oil change. They said it looked good still. It does not shift hard at all. Its only when you first start it up. once its ben driven a couple of blocks you cant tell it had a problem.

Does the bulbs work for the 'D4' or 'S' light? There may be a trouble code stored if there is a problem with the transmission. The 4th gen Accords commonly had problems with the Transmission Control Module (TCM) or the solenoids, which caused shifting problems.

Hi,

Did you ever figure this out ?’ My 1990 just started doing this exact same thing. Just when the weather got cold.

Wont shift into 2nd on D4 unless I drive It down the street and then it’s fine. No lights, no S lights using the jumper.

the only thing I found is that I have a leaking transmission coolant line. Very minimal and the coolant is otherwise full.

I am hinking that the coolant pressure isn’t high enough to activate something but I’m not sure if it’s a coolant problem or not.

If I let the car warm up it does not happen. Not full temp. Just for about 5 minutes and the needle hasn’t moved yet and the problem stops.

Trans is a reman and has less than 10,000 miles on it. shift and lockup solenoid are band new and fluid is new and at level and the TCU is new and I am getting no lights using the jumper.

just weird.

anyone have any ideas. Also does the same thing when I try to put it in reverse right after a cold start. 1 minute later it’s fine

Thanks,

Mac
